Populating a Car Classifieds Site

I am looking into building a car site like AutoTrader . com for a client but don't know how to integrate Blue Book Value, Insurance Quotes and to populate the with cars for sale so it won't look like a ghost town. This site be for the US and the name has been patented - so its a serious project.

Any specific answers or personal experience of doing this kind of site, your help will be greatly appreciated.

David.

  • I have never developed the big websites, but I used the script called Oxy Classified for this purpose. However, the functionality you are looking for need custom coding by some experts.

    David,

I'd start by searching through Kelly Blue Book for an api maybe even calling them to see if they offer it and if there is a cost involved. Then do the same thing for Insurance maybe search Geico's site or whoever else you may want to deal with.

As for populating things you can contact some smaller car lots and offer them to list their cars for free. Maybe on the website offer "Free" listings for the first month. Advertise in the newspaper and offer free advertising to boost sales up.

    Talofa,
    Fred

We actually work on quite a number of sites of this nature - some of them names that are well known. The cars for sale come mainly from dealers, or data aggragators, most of whom pay to have their cars on the sites.

Car values, from, for example, CAP price guide, are supplied by CAP (not free!), and insurance/finance quotes come through relationships with companies that provide these - often embedding their quote engines into the site.

Do you know the equivalent of CAP in the USA?
