How do you launch a product? How do you market it?

I've never concentrated on IM, i make websites and my ebook shows people how to make a simple profitable website. I'm at the revision stage where i keep going back to revise aprts and add new bits. I tried to make it the best i could with all my knowledge and techniques.

The problem is once i've completed it i don't know how to market it or what to do with it. I wondered if anyone could help.

The strategies i've thought of are

1) try to find someone with a list and give them commission

2) Just list it in WSO section and hope for the best.

When i first decided to create the ebook i had tried to help someone with their keywordresearch and ended up writing a 3000 word thread on it. So i felt maybe i could give the first part away free in the thread and maybe i could give it away to some people with lists and they could do something that way?

What other strategies are there?

Why not put it on Clickbank, or similar? Not been a publisher on there myself, but they are a marketplace for affiliates.

WSO posts might be a good place to start? Or perhaps a search for how to create a good WSO on here? This is not something I've done - but best of luck to you!

    Hi Matt,

The problem you have a simple but very common one....

The normal way to market something is to find a group of people with a need and then show them the solution. It's not supposed to be hard to sell people what they already need.

The problem comes when we create the solution before having access to the market.

    This creates 2 main problems:

1 - It wasn't actually created 'for' anyone in particular, so we can't offer it to them when it's done.

2 - Because it wasn't created based on those people giving their requirements, there's no detail about what they want, how they want it etc...

So we end up putting in a lot of work and then having a product but no group of people to tell about it.

If you'd used PPC to run some questions to a group of people, you can just use PPC to sell them the solution.

If you created it based on feedback from an email list - that's where you would start selling.

So the situation you're in is just a result of having created the product before finding the market to give it to - it's VERY common but actually back-to-front.

You can find JV partners, but I would also suggest that you spend some time considering who your product is actually designed to help, where they hang out, what they're looking for - and then tell them about it.

That might mean finding forums and other communities and websites etc, but you'll end up with people who you can actually access to tell about your product, rather than a product but not sure where the people are.

    I hope that makes sense.

    Regards,

    Andy

    Thanks, that helps a lot.

Part 1 was created when i had noticed a lot of people asking about keyword research so i created a huge thread about it going into more detail than usual. I was going to cover everything up to promoting a website and making it profitable and give it to the forum for free but after 12,000 words i thought it best to sell it because i'm in desperate need of cash.

So the people who need it are in this forum so i guess i'll make a WSO but i'm scared it will just get left alone to rot because people might think it's "just another ebook".
