Aggressive Domain Marketing

I own a bunch of domains, and lately I've been getting quite a few e-mails marketing related domain names. I've never bought one, and I'm wondering if this tactic is ever effective. Most of the time, the domain names aren't very appealing (at least to me) and/or very expensive. Today, for example, I was offered a 6 word domain name for $500. I wouldn't have paid even $7 for it.

I'm familiar with the tactic of selling domain names to local businesses, but I can't see much profit in doing this for popular niches when the domains are fairly generic and have no real value, such as trying to sell an internet marketer a domain like bestmoneymakingsystemonline.com (just made that up as an example).

LarryC, I think this is good if you happen to collect a list of people who displayed interest in a domain or buying domains.

However, this is probably only useful if you can give stats on the domains. A big list of domains with no profitably isn't going to do much good. I'm a sucker for cool sounding domains though ...

There are hundreds of thousands people in this market, each with a different set of knowledge and experience. If such an offer hits the right person at the right time, the seller makes easy money.

As far as i am concerned i dont think domain name means a lot. The six letter words domain may have no value to you but it may be of big value to somebody else. It depends with what one is looking for.

Marketing domain names by email is all about matching up a good quality domain name with a well researched potential buyer, who you've determined would benefit from using that keyword domain in their marketing. For example, check to see who is using the exact keywords in their Adwords campaign, and how much they are paying per click for that keyword. Show them how owning the keyword as a domain name can save them a ton of money over time by ranking it on the first page of Google, and having it link back to their main website.

Quality domain names + well-researched potential buyers = sale.

Far too many "wanna-be" domineers think they can sell domains by soliciting random people with poorly chosen domain names. That works as well as trying to sell a hamburger to a vegetarian.

      That

As an example, I bought chlamydia testing for $30 ... sold it to an STD lab for $900. It was exactly the keywords they use for a campaign.
