newbie- something I'm confused about

I am reading til my eyes go blurry
I know lots of people have different opinions on everything too.
Just want to see what you all think. I am going to do my first static site and have started my keyword research. My main question is- the keyword I pick for my domain name and blog title....do I want to have my homepage target that keyword also? And if so should I pick a keyword with a little higher competition than the ones I choose for my articles?

That's a good strategy. I achieved #1 in a reasonably competitive niche in one day, and I think a good part of the reason was that the main keyphrase was right there in the domain name. (Another was on-page SEO, and nothing else--no one had linked to the site when I hit page 1 on Google.) Therefore I'm a strong advocate for borring, keyword-rich but not keyword-spammy domain names.

I pretty much was buying domains based on a good keyword and leaving it at that. I just wondered if most people have their homepage target that same keyword. I can't really think of a reason not to, but then again..I don't know much :p
