Payment Processors...

I need a payment processor that doesn't have a startup fee other than paypal, 2checkout or clickbank. Any suggestions?

    Hey Niche,

You should check out FastSpring - E-Commerce, Merchandising & Fulfillment Solution for Desktop Software and SaaS

These guys are really top notch... You can accept paypal payments even without a paypal account, fully integrate the order page in your website, cross sell, split test and ton of other things.

I use them on a quite a few of my websites and the support etc has been A++

A payment processor is a different thing from a site offering ecommerce management for vendors of digital goods. And it's a different thing from a "payment gateway", and different again from a "merchant account", and different again from a "retailer".

        ClickBank is a retailer.

Fastspring and 2Checkout are ecommerce managers for digital vendors.

PayPal and AlertPay and MoneyBookers are payment processors.
        Exactly.

We can include Plimus, RAPbank and PayDotCom along ClickBank as retailers. No merchant accounts needed for vendors in their programs.

Fastspring, SWEREG and 2CO are ecommerce payment enablers for digital products. Integrate their payment systems to self-hosted shopping carts or use their ready solutions. And all have their own MarketPlaces just like ClickBank, making them retailers as well.

PayPal, Alertpay and Moneybookers are indeed payment processors. They can be for personal money transfer and at the same time for ecommerce transactions. Except AlertPay, the other 2 provide merchant accounts.

WorldPay and Authorize.Net (US only) are payment processors and international gateways for businesses as well as payment terminals. They provide Merchant Accounts as well.

Not relevant to the OP topic but good to know is Payoneer.

Payoneer partners with companies such as COPEAC, Convert2Media, Odesk, Plimus, FastSpring and 2CO in distributing MC Debit Cards. These Debit Cards make it easy for affiliates and vendors to receive money worldwide.

Please correct me if I'm wrong.

I think you got your information mixed up.

A payment gateway is service that authorizes and process payments with your merchant account.

Clickbank, Fastspring, paypal, Alert pay etc are all Third-party payment processors. Some of the services just offer more features such as order fulfillment and affiliate management. (you don't need a merchant account with these services)

I don't think you meant to put Clickbank here.

I've had problems with Paypal who thought one of my websites was MLM which they do not allow but it was a selling site with one product which was a website template not MLM, I just couldn't get them to accept it, I moved to AlertPay and have had no problems at all.

Alterpay I found were very helpful and respond very quickly and I even understood they response.

Paypal seem to be pushing everyone around these days but when your that big you can.

    Err..

All them are third party payment processors. All of them have the capability of processing payments on your behalf without the need of a merchant account, which is what a third party payment processor is. The reason you cannot receive payments freely like paypal is b/c each company has their own terms of service which you have to follow if you want to use them.

This is why a lot of companies use merchant accounts, so they have more flexibility and control.

I can only think you mean that all of them provide services which include a third-party payment processor, Allan. But if you honestly imagine that you can use ClickBank to send someone a $50 invoice for something they owe you and have them pay it online, I wish you good luck trying! :p

(Ok, I know you don't think that, really).

There was never any difference of opinion on that point.

Nevertheless, with respect, when someone asks for a recommendation for a "payment processor" and you suggest Fastspring, it's not exactly a certainty that they'll be able to use it for whatever it might turn out they had in mind, I think you'll agree?

It says right on there site:

"Founded in 1998, ClickBank is a secure online retail outlet" like a walmart.

I can have a product in walmart but I'm not a merchant with them I'm a "vendor" just like clickbank.
