End Of The Web?... Oh Please!

I just got hit with the 3rd JV email promoting the "End Of The Web" pdf. I guess it was just a matter of time.. so what will we all do now there is going to be no more internet?

Gosh.. it was bad enough after the "Death of SEO" I had to switch to PPC and then you guessed it the "Death of Google Adwords" and then the "Death of Email Marketing", now the whole web is no longer available to us marketers?

What will you do now?

Well the sky is falling... hehe...

The web is not dying it is changing. More people access the web via mobile phones, so the dynamic is changing over to mobile advertising and mobile apps. Currently Android is in the lead... so there ya go.. Google again.. lol.

Though there are other new ways that are becoming profitable like mobile marketing, I don't think people will agree that any of those things you mentioned are dead....I for one am certainly doing fine with SEO and email marketing

I kinda laugh at this as well.

I've heard some people say that eventually we're ONLY going to use smart phones to browse the internet.

While that may be true- I personally am going to use a monitor for as long as I can!

    I like my big monitor.
    I like my keyboard.
    I like my mouse.

Sure there are alternatives to these with smart phones- but they aren't gonna kill traditional browsing of the net.

The web is definentely not going end, it will however keep evolving just like everything else does. So i'm sure the web we use in five years will be drastically different to the one we use now, just as the web we use today is clearly more evolved than what it was five years ago.

Clearly the doom mongers who think up these dramatic news stories, only do so in the vain attempt to push more junk info onto your hardrive, whilst clearing out your bank account for yet more monthly payments.

We are still in the infancy stage of the internet, as I don't think it has yet maxed out on the potential of things like streaming hd or 3d content to the main stream populous. Neither has online shopping become the norm for many people yet, but it will only get bigger and that means more money in the bank for us Internet Marketers.

It already is and as marketers it makes sense to market to the people where most of the people are, and to the device they keep with them all day. Oh, is this prediction from that marketer who once said he knows nothing about SEO and then launched a product that was based on getting higher rankings in search engines?, is this prediction from that marketer who said Adwords sucks and then released a product on how to get cheap clicks via Gmail ads?

I honestly believe in everything he says.

Well here's what these devices mean to me in how I connect with the internet and run my business.

BlackBerry = Twitter, Face Book, Email
Computer = Project Construction & Creation, YouTube Video Production
Lap Top = Video Recording, Screen Capturing, Content Writing

So in essence I use my BlackBerry to stay connected to my market and the people in it. I use my Computer to produce and I use my laptop to create.

    That's how I use technology...

So I think it's pretty ignorant for someone to say it's the end of the internet considering we're growing with new technologies all the time. It's not so much what the technologies can do... rather where we can operate these technologies from. We are very mobile and can actually run a business from anywhere.

The internet IS coming to an end.

It will come to an end in November as I think this asteroid will cause the whole world to blow up:

Giant asteroid heading close to Earth - Telegraph

You heard it here first, folks.

Okay, maybe you didn't, but you heard it here, nonetheless.

Just read the report and it's ok but stops a bit sharpish and introduces a new product from Ryan.

I think it's good to keep track and aware of changes to the internet. Sure I'm not into buying on an iPhone but that doesn't mean others don't. The headline was extreme but I was curious... simply because my future depends on the internet so it's worth checking out.

Ever read the book 'Who Moved My Cheese?'

There were some good points in the report... creating real businesses for example.

Ryan said sell Real Stuff and gave a list of mainly physical products but there will always be a demand for information (if that's what you create and sell).

I think the spin is mainly from an example of local corner shops vs. big chains and multinational companies like Walmart & Tesco. Local shops (especially food shops) have suffered big time but I think more could have survived if they were better at positioning and differentiating themselves from the big boyz.

Personally I think if you stick to marketing 101, are prepared to move with the times (ie. put up a website for your offline business & whatever media is being used at that time) and invest in yourself then things will fine...

      This is a great point.

Here is what people don't get - internet marketing doesn't exist!

All we have is marketing, and media that we use to "transmit" our message. The only thing internet does is that it also allows us to accept payments, and even deliver the products(digital downloads).

The thing is, things will not go on the way they are now - look at what happened to affiliates in California. You think that's that last we're hearing about something like this?

Rumour says PayPal is on it's way to be regulated as a bank. You think that will not affect YOU somehow?

Google Places used to be a great way to attract clients for my dance school. Now if saturated with listings, even being #1 isn't as effective.

What about yellow pages? People tend to refer to Google for info, instead, right?

      And so on...

As you can see, there are many changes happening. In any case, there are some good points in that PDF.

BTW - it vaguely reminds me of the internet manifesto by Rich Schefren few years ago.

Agreed... the question is did you not know that things are always changing before you read the report? Things always change and always will that is just a given...nothing new there.

Originally Posted by AdwordsMogul View Post

It is exactly like the Rich Schefren internet manifesto..same concept with new clothes... so really nothing new except a dramatic headline. The irony is that they are not using any new techniques to promote this stuff... the formula is the same:

        1) dramatic headline
        2) fluffed up pdf (sprinkled with some references to current trends)
        3) long drawn out launch
        4) JV email blasts
        5) False scarcity
        6) etc. etc.

Where is the innovation there? That is circa 2003!

Dave, you are making good points however...

You and I are probably not the target market for this document. One line says something like (I'm paraphrasing) "if you didn't start an IM business that's great"

Everybody knows something for nothing isn't a reality, but people will shell out loads of cash and waste time trying to find it. (I know I have, in the past )

So yes, we know things will change, but most people will keep their heads in the sand, until enough people tell them - "It's time to put your head in a different hole". And hopefully, in between changing holes they may learn something new.

I think this document is for that kind of people.

I agree about the fluff though - I read it but had to skip like every 10 lines.

End of the web? Is this the same as the Millennium Bug paranoia or the 2012 doomsday? I don't know why people would try to predict events that will eventually destroy the web or the planet herself. I mean, what's the trend all about? Are people too excited to see the ending of it?
Let's not try to think about it, since it will just discourage some newbie around here to try to earn money through online marketing. Probably there are people who think that why work when the web or the world is going to end.
Nobody can say that it is the end of something, and I will not also say that no person can tell what might happen, I assume there are.
But anyways, let us continue and go on with our lives. We should be thankful that we have IM world that helps us earn some money and now, they will claim as it is the end of the web. Come on, there are millions of people who are depending in the IM to earn (including me,lol).
For me, I will not set my mind to that kind of thing. Keep moving forward and enjoy what we are doing right now.

    1. Don't have Smartphones yet
    or
    2. Have smartphones but do not take advantage of all the features, or don't know how the features exist.

This will change of course as we share socially and more people eventually will become more savvy to the opportunities of smartphones.

  • Huh? Isn't the Internet already dead? I just find it hard to kick the habit, so I still pretend there's still an Internet each day by configuring my screenreader software to trick me into thinking I'm browsing the Web, posting this on a new WarriorForum thread, earning income from my ICT outsourcing company, providing food on the table for my family, providing my family with what they need, buying stuff we need online, checking our PayPal and bank accounts online, checking and sending emails to imaginary contacts, chatting with imaginary IM contacts, setting up imaginary websites on an imaginary Internet, viewing imaginary content on imaginary websites and so on. It's still fun though...
