Affiliates: What makes you feel sexy? :-D

Hello once again Ladies and Gents, hope you're all well...

It's Adam here and I have yet another question... it's been about two weeks since my last one so I thought now would be a good time

I've been thinking for a little while about the steps I'll be taking over the next few weeks and I'm essentially moving into product creation, because, with all the things I've tried so far... it's what I enjoy the most.

So obviously I'd like to make the most of it, consequently the question arose:

"What would make an affiliate choose to promote one product over another?"

My own particular thought process and experience so far told me that 'If you make a person feel sexy, they tend to warm to you', thus the thread title

So in other words:

"How do you make an affiliate feel sexy?"

Obviously IM products are in no short supply, and sub-niches aside (I assume some folks would specialise in traffic, others in PPC etc.)... what makes any one opportunity stand out, do you think?

Is it:
  • The product reviews / testimonials?
  • The conversion rate?
  • The commission total?
  • The commission split?
  • The affiliate resources? (banners / emails swipes etc.)
  • The affiliate competition rewards?
  • How handsome the marketer is? :p
Seriously though... it's something I haven't delved into too much so far and I'd love a little guidance and advice from any folks who have the time and don't mind sharing

Otherwise if you can point me to a resource I could use then that would be lovely

I have faith in the products I'll be creating, I've seen enough to know what's good and what' bad, and I'll only be producing the best of what my abilities allow. So I guarantee my prospective partners in crime would be proud to have their name associated with it.

I'm planning three or four products per year, each with a big ol' affiliate launch

Just need the affiliates....

And the products... :p

Anyway thanks in advance guys, all the very best,

Adam S.J.

EDIT: I really hope this isn't like that one woman who came on the other week and her one and only post read "Guys, what kind of products would you buy and in what areas?"

That was nuts, I hope I'm not doing the same sort of thing here

OK I'm going to do this one cheeky little bump to make sure I've asked an inappropriate question, rather than just posted at the wrong time of day.

    Consider it 'testing'

Apologies if it's the former rather than the latter!

EDIT: Incidentally, I'm not entirely sure the question is in bad taste, but of course I welcome feedback and (constructive) criticism

I would definitely have to say that if I am buying, it would have to be a GOOD product that could help me and have GOOD testimonials that show the potential of the product!

If I was becoming an affiliate, I would have to know the Conversion rate and commission! (There will ALWAYS be competition. Even if there is none, you couldn't make a dime if you didn't know how to market it!)

      Ok thanks Josh

Well as long as the copy and the product itself is solid, conversions will be a sinch...

So we're looking at commission rate... Let's say there's a:

      - 25% commission product
      - 50% commission product
      - 75% commission product

Assuming the selling price is the same for each... is there anything that would make you take the 25% or 50% offer over the 75% offer?

      We're making headway

I'm really just trying to understand the mind of the affiliate here... believe it or not this has somehow NOT been the focus of my studies in recent times.

My theory at the moment is:

"If you take a $50 product (A) the conversion rate is 20% (oh yes) and the commission is 50%... it's simply a case of the 1,000 prospect equation"

      i.e. ((1,000 x conversion) x selling price) x commission rate

e.g. 1,000 people click your affiliate link... 20% buy at $50 earning a total revenue of $10,000 and you earn $5,000

Now if you've got another product (B) that's converting at 15% but sells for $100, you've then got a total revenue of $15,000 and a personal commission of $7,500.

Obviously the second offer is more appealling.

Is there ANYTHING that would stop you promoting Product B instead of Product A?

Because if it's that simple... it seems the most effective way of attracting affiliates is to offer a commission rate that earns just that little bit more than the next competing JV offer.

      Any thoughts?

JamesGw - Ok so the bottom line is key... money. Cheers James.

MissLauraCatella - More detailed money Thanks Laura.

Mr Kevin - Same as above... thank you Kevin!

Ok... the only thing I'm thinking now is... affiliate competition.

How much of an effect does this have on whether you choose a campaign or not?

Also... cash, vacations or iphones? :p

BONUS QUESTION: Do you LOOK for affiliate offers or do you prefer to be approached?

If the former (you look), where do you look? e.g. Here at WF? JVNotify?

Appreciate your feedback ladies and gents... or rather lady and gents so far, but give it time
