having a foot in both camps I still think long term IM is going to be most beneficial ( depends on what outcomes you want/what you sell/ticket price etc)

But one of the reason we moved towards IM - is that although telemarketing performs a large part of what we do and pulls massive results for our clients. You cannot beat what every restaurant wants above all else...not a good location, not the best chef...but a starving crowd every day.

If people are pro -actively looking for your product or service by searching and clicking, then you do not need to go through the first hurdle of educating them as to why this is a good investment of their time and/or resourced. They are already there.

However, that said, telemarketing still opens big doors and in the majority of markets (SEO and Internet Marketing ironically being one) it is still powerful - clients think we have a website - and that is all we need - many don't know there is a whole industry dedicated to making their online presence work for them.

Still massive space for online and offline both work well in tandem - but the internet as an open source of information is maybe the most profound invention any of us will see in our lifetimes.

I agree IM has a long life (till we find some other source)...

But when it comes to one-to-one marketing, don't you think Telemarketing works the best..??

For today, I believe that IM is one of the best ways to promote your product, if your campaign is set up right, you can aim for several different tipes of people. You can spand your money on realy good targeted traffic and you will get a great resutls.

Telemarketing if more for big branding. It is powerfull, you can get into the people minds and you can literally change the way they think.

I hang up on telemarketers, every.single.time. The do not call list doesnt work as well as it used to, the calls are increasing.

With IM I can read what I choose to read when I choose to read it. I dont appreciate answering the phone to find someone trying to flog something.

Internet Marketing is 100 times more affective

you can reach a never ending supply of leads - and build a relationship with them

most important is you can get targeted leads and get them to COME to you! not you go to them

not like cold calling and pissing people off the call center way >.< ..yuck

I use both, especially in the major competitive markets. Use online to generate leads/prospects, and the telephone to close six figure sales. You can't do that just by internet marketing alone. It should never be thought of as "either/or". The most successful marketers use as many online/offline contact points as possible.

Internet Marketing, by a very far margin. And here's why.

For the most part Telemarketing is a cold-lead sales generation method. Sure, your lead might even be hot, but you could call them at the wrong time of the day. Most people view telemarketing as an annoyance. Most likely because the offer being promoted to them via the telephone isn't really all that targeted.

Contrast that to internet marketing, where I can find EXACTLY who will be interested in what I am trying to promote. In essence I can lure my market straight to my offer, in a way that is convenient for them. Means no annoyance and more sales because my offer is targeted.

You're going to fail. If you're afraid of failure then you do not belong in the Internet Marketing Business. Period.

    I think it depends.

Trying to sell a $5,000 product? If you can talk to a targetted customer on the phone, you're probably MUCH more likely to sell than if they're just on your website.

Trying to sell a $7 product? Stick with IM

The potential reach / audience for internet marketing far exceeds telemarketing. Your message will reach thousands, maybe millions at a time, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. With telemarketing, you are far more limited.

Now as Justin pointed out, some products simply lend themselves better to the more human connection of a telemarketer murmuring in your ear. Personally, I tend to hang up on them or just say I'm not interested even before they get fully into their sales script.

    Just my humble opinion.

    Good luck!

I think it depends on the product, but I do know I've never purchased anything after talking to a telemarketer but I purchase stuff online all the time!

I believe Internet marketing is much more effective if you know how to market the product you are selling.

I think the fact that the IM audience is often targeted traffic looking to make a purchase means internet marketing will be more successful.

I don't care what you are selling, I can pretty much guarantee I won't be buying something from a telemarketer. But I have purchased numerous products online. The term "telemarketer" has too much of a negative connotation these days. I don't think the same is true with "internet marketer".

Internet marketing in combination with telemarketing can be very effective. If you are selling a product or service and you use internet marketing to aquire leads, then have them call you regarding your product. I think this is great because you never cold call people, you are only talking to people who want to call you and find out more. I have cold called before and it is the worst, I don't care what anybody says.

Having a warmed up interested party call you and already have an idea of what is going on avoids so much hassle, and will be much more profitable. So anyway...I think the combination of the two is a good bet.
