I've been offered reproduction rights but have no idea how much to pay for the license....

Hi Warriors,

Could someone help out this old timer newbie please?

I have found through my research a cheap ebook ($5). I have purchased the product as a trial and found it a good solid information product. I would be interested in securing the duplication or exclusive rights. I have emailed the author, his reply is as follows.

Thanks for your email regarding duplication rights for my ebook. Happy to Consider an arrangement either for duplication or exclusive rights. Could You get back to me with any thoughts you have or more details of the Arrangement you would like.

My Problem is I have no idea what a good offer price would be, or what other arrangements should involve.

I guess it is a Reproduction Rights License I am after.

Any idea what sort of costs I should consider paying him?

Thank you everyone.

General rule of thumb in business deals... never state a price first... do your best to feel out your client and get them to give you a price point first.

Ask them nicely, what $ dollar amount would they be willing to work with.

They have obviously shown an interest in 2 options... duplication, OR exlusive rights.

Ask them what price they would be comfortable receiving for both options. (If I were you, and it fits your budget, I would opt for the Exclusive Rights)

    Hope that helps you Jenny,

    Here's some ideas:

    1. If you think you can sell it for more than $5, offer him $2 on every book you sell. Then sell it for (lots) more. Remember EXPENSIVE = VALUABLE in the minds of most consumers. If I were choosing between 2 ebooks on the same subject and one cost $5 and the other was $97...I'd buy the $97 one.
    2. Do some research, add to the ideas some of your own, write your own ebook and now you are the copyright holder. (There are very few new ideas. Don't plagiarize, but do feel free to expand and expound.)
    3. Once you have material you own, turn it into Audio and Video and charge even more for the same ideas.

    Good luck!
