How much should affiliates make?

I'd like some input on how much affiliates should be paid for membership programs. Let's say that the membership was $47/mo, that members could pay monthly, quarterly, or yearly, and that affiliates continued to receive commissions as long as members continued to pay.

I know with a one time sale that 50% is fairly typical (and yes I know some pay more). Does that still hold true for memberships? Does it depend on the length of the subscription? Does it change after the initial period? Like X% for first purchase and Y% for renewals?

This will be for a hosted software service (think aWeber, but not the autoresponder business), so the business model would be for very long term customers. It's not like people will be popping in for content and then dropping their membership.

    Ben,

A 30% recurring commission on memberships seems to be regular, but then again it depends on how much your membership fee and operating cost is.

For my latest membership, 30% is reasonable for me seeing that it allows me to automate most of my marketing efforts.

Thanks for the feedback. That's actually very much in line with what I'd been thinking.

Anyone else have any thoughts on this?

      Hey Ben,

I actually use 30% for my membership site. But, I give 100% on the front.

What I mean, is I will sell a low-priced product for a one-time fee on the front end, and give the affiliate 100% commission.

I will then upsell the membership on the back end and give the affiliate 30% of that.

      Regards,

We were originally tossing around the idea of having a sign-up fee for the membership which we'd do at 100% and then something like 30% on the actual membership. I think we decided to go away from trying to do that, and we don't really have any other product to sell.

50% and affiliates will promote you like crazy. Problem is that you have to have superior content to keep the members at a price above $34.

So once you have a good % to give away, how do you FIND more affiliates??

For sure, 75% is what I always give to my affiliates.

To find more affiliates, sign your ebook up to more affiliate networks such as clickbank, commission junction, paydotcom do one too.

    Hope it helps!
