Hi. I don't even know if this is the right place to post this, but here goes. I have just recently purchased a website. This my first one and I know absolutely nothing about internet marketing. It is an affiliate site which is a search portal for hotel accommodation. I realise there is probably heaps of these out there, but the idea is to get experience with the whole deal before moving further. They included some backlinking with the site, but I'm starting to realise marketing has to be done regularly to make any money. The guy I bought it from will do monthly marketing for $199 a month with a report. Can anyone tell me if this is reasonable, or even worth it? Any tips on marketing would be great. Cheers

It's impossible to say whether $199 a month is worth it without knowing what is being done for that.

There are plenty of people here in the Warriors for Hire section who will do A LOT for that amount every month. I suggest you have a chat with a couple of them before tying yourself into any agreement with the company you bought the website from.

That sounds a lot of money to me. You could be doing it for yourself for that much a year! As I am faily new and not great at the technical part of internet marketing, I use sitesell for my website. Many marketers would prefer other means but of course you have to be able to do it. At least you would have all the tools needed to build your own and could do affiliate marketing this way, with hotel accommodation.

Don't jump in would be my advice! Use your gut feeling too.

$199 with little or no knowledge of the guy being able to do what he says he will do.

Check out this service i have just seen that seems to have alot of Quality reviews.

Remember though do some keyword research and find some gold nuggets regarding your websites niche before choosing which keywords you'd like to rank for.

Wise move to back out of this 'deal'. With little or no experience, how could you judge you would get your money's worth?

If you've bought a ready made website, why not add it to your profile? Then we may be able to take a look, and offer some more constructive advice.

There are many alternative ways to make this work for you, and I doubt that any would set you back $199 per month. That's a big bite out of a new venture which you have to cover before making a profit from the site.

      Cheers

Look at your return on investment?

How much can you expect to make from that
money based upon historical data. If you aren't
making any money directly yet, how is the value
of the asset increasing.... maybe you're just
building a very targeted database that you
    can market to later.

I wouldn't just spend money without an idea of
    ROI.

If you aren't in a big hurry to get some money, it would be good if you read and learn about the basics of IM for the next six months...sowing pure knowledge would be the best investment you can put in here...if you want to build a real business you have to know the ins and outs...Good Luck.

$199 is a small marketing fees for general niches, but it is huge money for small niche. And you do not know this will help you make money or not. Did the site make money before or just a new site? If this is a new site, you need to learn more and use money wisely before run out of money and get a little income.

I am just going to repeat what has already been said I guess. We can not tell if it is value or not without knowing exactly what he is going to do.
    Is he doing backlinking,article writing,keyword research,video, social bookmarking,seo etc?
Also would be a good idea to add the url to your signature and then some wise heads can take a peek and advise.
I got ripped off when I first started out. So I don't want to see it happen to you.

I think you should just follow whats the guru are doing and you will never get wrong.

Simple thing like setting a squeeze page, build a list and promote affiliate product.

And get the $199 to outsource for articles to do marketing.

$199 is quite a lot of money for a newbie. Depends on what you are aiming. If that particular website is going to be your fulltime, more efforts needed to be done from there. Other wise, for a part time, the figure is good.
