New to affiliate marketing...a little confused...

Hey everyone! So I'm very new to affiliate marketing and recently signed up with Affiliatenetwork.com. I looked around on the site to see what offers I can promote, however every offer on the website leads to the exact same generic "click to win an ipad" etc. link.

Are all CPA links usually like this? is it legal for me to create a link to a $xx gift card and when someone clicks the link it takes them to the "win a free ipad" ad?

Thanks!

These are good questions. Linking directly to an offer is definately not allowed by the major adverising venues such as google, yahoo, etc. Personally I think these offers have worn themselves out, but I am not an expert in this field by a long shot. My site offers some tips for those new to the business. I encourage you not to spend a dime with me, nor anyone else until you are comfortable understanding the business. Good luck.

Dont know the legalities and I know there are some creative 'types' when it comes to monetizing CPA offers but you have how conversions will work when you switch the offer around (ie. they're looking for gift cards and you show them an iPad ad... I'd be thinking WTF?!)

Exactly! The offer says "click here for a $100 gift card for xyz" but takes you to a "you've been selected to win an ipad" page. And these are the links provided by the affiliate network...I'm not changing anything

That's called "cakeslicing" which is down right doing fraud. You cannot false promise users since that will only lead to bad leads to the advertiser, and ultimately getting you ban hammered on the pay date...

just let he offer run as it is and find better ways to promote...

    good luck on the journey

Well I'm not promoting these offers yet but on the affiliate marketing site that is how they are presented...
You have several banners/sidebar ads to choose from and each one has a HTML code you need to copy and post on your site. However all the HTML codes (from other offers as well) are all linking to the same "free ipad" offer.

if this sort of this is not allowed, how is such a big affiliate network only producing these sort of offers?

Not all CPA links are like this and in my opinion whether it is legal or not is not the issue. You do not want to mislead people and if you really want to have success online for more than just a month or two you are better off promoting products and things that will be around for a while. Always think long term and avoid anything that seems dishonest.

I completely agree. Since I'm new I wasn't sure if this was the standard for CPA links.

      Thanks for the advice
I definitely don't want to be adding more trash to the web.

Not the standard but it does happen, unfortunately.

Since you are new in affiliate marketing I highly recommend you to get Google Slicer by Kayzee or Google Sniper 2. This will help you to get going on the right path.

      I suggest you go to associateprograms(dot)com ... (can't give links yet) :p

There you'll meet Allen Gardyne! I met him about 10 years ago at a seminar.

He's one of the nicest guys you'll ever meet...and at the TOP of the affiliate game!

I'm relatively new as well and looking into both CPA and Affiliate programs. I have a site for each right now and testing them to make the necessary adjustments. There is definitely a lot to learn especially on how to drive targeted traffic and a landing page that will convert. I found that a lot of this is just trial and error. Plus, reading valuable threads here on the Forum can help you take giant leaps!
