Tips for monetizing 2 blogs (lots of traffic)

Sup guys.

=]

I've had these 2 blogs on the backburner for a while. They are part autoblog part editorial. (I define editorial as content that I actually write.)

Yeah, I know autoblogs are "frowned upon" now and people say they don't rank. Well surprise surprise. I think my added unique content seriously aids the credibility of the blogs. Not to mention, the sites have an impressive scope of content and are crawled/indexed LIKE THE DICKENS.

The blogs are like a year old and are getting LOTS of traffic.

(10,000 uniques monthly, 40k hits monthly)

My question is, how should I monetize these efficiently? I have a few amazon posts scheduled but that doesn't seem very efficient. I had a few ads in the widgets bar but they weren't getting much action. I need something more prevalent, dare I say 'invasive'

The topics of the blogs are "Politics" and "Computer Science"

I rushed today to implement adsense, but I guess my account needs to be reverified and now google is sending something to my house for a "pin" number or something, which they said can take a few WEEKS. (fml)

Any ideas on how to exploit this quantity of traffic?

(I was thinking of a popup asking for e-mail address, I bet I could assemble a massive list with this kind of traffic, but how could I make incentive for them with these 2 topics?)

I'd like to start my brainstorming session this morning by inquiring to my fellow warriors; if you can offer anything to get my brain juices flowing I'd be much obliged.

Regards

One thing that you could test very easily is with Adsense. There is a plugin called "quick adsense" that will let you define where you want the ads to show on each page, and then by putting in the code one-time, you will instantly have it on all of your pages or posts.

As far as placements, I was looking all over for tips on the most effective adsense placements, and lo and behold, on Google's own blog they have a suggested layout for content blogs. Once I applied it like they suggested, my adsense clicks doubled.

They recommend putting a large rectangle ad that shows both image and text on the top right of each post, a 350x250 in the right sidebar below whatever the first thing is in your sidebar, and then another large rectangle at the end of each post.
