I'm working on creating my first landing page and curious what do you recommend as the best plugin to do this with for wordpress? I want the typical where I can build my sales list and have an autoresponder.

Another question I have is how important is domain name for landing pages? Is there any good wordpress landing page templates out their?
#capture or auto #email #landing #pages #responder #wordpress

OK, aweber is probably the best autoresponder system out there. Runs $19 a month. You don't need a plugin. But if you are looking for a system to build killer landing pages OptimizePress is amazing. Build killer landing pages and you can beautify the aweber code to make it look pro.

I've heard a lot about the optiMizepress. Is it worth the $100 for it? I'm new to IM and never built a landing page yet so is that a good way to start for the money?

I will vote for Aweber, Email marketing software that's easy to use & only $1 to try. Send email newsletters & autoresponders. Top notch email deliverability with our tools.

optiMizepress is good but do you really need 50 samples of squeeze page and sales pages.... Isn't 1 or 2 samples of squeeze page OK which will only cost 20$....optiMizepress has lots of lots of options and confusing for a beginner. I think KISS is the best policy.

Aweber, GetResponse and iContact are the most popular autoresponders among internet marketers. Probably Aweber is the top one, but you can't go wrong with any of them really.

I own OptimizePress and it is a kickass product with great support, but I'm agreed with the other poster that it can be complicated and overkill.

My preference (and what I'm using for all my Landing Pages now is Premise for Landing Pages and MailChimp for email marketing. MailChimp has a free plan 2000 subscribers/12,000 send per month for FREE.

They just removed AutoResponders from the free plan, but you won't need those right away anyway

If you do a search for freeautoresponders.biz, there is a plugin for newsletter and autoresponder functions within wordpress. This is the GWA autoresponder.

Another one I found is called Newsletter Pro.
These two options are very good for those starting out that are watching their cashflow.

If you want a subscription solution. Aweber seems to be the best choice. I've used getresponse - it was good, but I didn't like that every campaign has to be unique against the whole database of clients.

Vertical Response is a good option if you don't need an automated email campaign.

I just signed-up with MC last week, it's really cool & funky.

So I set up landing pages on my fb pages & an optin form on my site which took a while.

I started collecting subscribers & sent out an Email blast including a gift & they BANNED ME!!! GRRRR!

I think this is the most helpful for somebody doing this the first time. Go with a company like Aweber or GetResponse with good support and lots of how to pages/videos.

      They also handle deliverability issues.

Some ARs are starting to integrate with plugins, I went with ImnicaMail because they have a plugin which registers a user on the blog when somebody opts in (especially cool if you're using a facebook connect on your squeeze page)

They're also cheaper than aweber if that's a concern, I went with a 1 year plan for $82 (Though I'll have to upgrade when my subscribers go over a certain number)

But if you have the product launch theme which came with Mike's evergreen business thing the other day, that only works with a handful of ARs, aweber being one of them.

I agree with most here if you don't have budget constraints:

      Aweber, GetResponse
      or iContact

However, if you're tight for budget, you can save a lot of money monthly by using a free AR.

Mailchimp: Be very careful with this, as:
      • Once you've reached lists of 2000, you will be charged;
      • They don't allow lists to be used for Affiliate Marketing (and a lot of others, see their TOC's);
      • I believe they've removed Autoresponders from the free service.
Another free alternative is ListWire, which never charges, no matter how often you use it, and you can use it for any IM requirement, including Affiliate Marketing. The only bain is that you have to use an extra piece of software to convert LW opt-ins to fit Wordpress widgets. It's not difficult, just a bit of a pain in the derierre.

Sorry, but don't know a lot about ImnicaMail, though I know a lot of Warriors recommend it.

      Cheers

OK, here's some info from MailChimp's terms page. Looks like there's a slew of "business types".

          From that page:
we do not allow businesses that offer these types of services, products, or content:
Also, there are some industries that send certain types of content that result in higher than normal bounce rates and abuse complaints, which in turn jeopardize the deliverability of our entire system. No offense intended, but because we must ensure the highest delivery rates possible for all our customers, we do not allow businesses that offer these types of services, products, or content:
          • Illegal goods or services
          • Escort and dating services
          • Pharmaceutical products
          • Work from home, Internet Lead-gen, Make money on online opportunities, etc.
          • Online trading, day trading tips, or stock market related content
          • Gambling services, products or gambling education
          • Multi-level marketing
          • Affiliate marketers
          • Credit repair, get-out-of-debt content
          • Mortgages and/or Loans
          • Nutritional Supplements, Herbal Supplements or Vitamin Supplements
          • Pornography or nudity in content
          • Adult novelty items or references in content
          • List brokers or List rental services
          • Marketing or sending commercial email without proper permission
Generally speaking, if you're in an industry that is frequently associated with spam, you know who you are (it's probably why you're reading this far, right?). We make no judgments about your line of business, but we cannot afford to risk our deliverability. In fact, most ESPs like MailChimp will not be able to help you. You will most likely need to look into setting up your own mail servers. The term to search on is "email delivery server." There are many industrial strength MTAs to choose from with built-in delivery and reporting tools for high-volume senders.
I think I better get some further clarification from their support and consider moving my lists....ugh.

Aweber is awesome. Start with the $1 trail and then use the WordPress Plug-in they have created especially for what you want to do.
Remember, you can only use this on a private hosted wordpress site, not a free wordpress account....so as long as you have your "owndomainname.com" with Wordpress Script installed on it, it will work. Its worth the money any way as you are in business aren't you?

      Hey Warriors,

I took the initiative to contact MailChimp and ask for clarification of their Terms, regarding the line about "Affiliate marketers" specifically.

I started my quest with their live chat and they basically told me there was a "gray" area regarding affiliate links. OK, makes sense, but I needed to know where in that gray area my lists and campaigns stood. As the chat support suggested I sent my chat email record to MailChimp's compliance dept.

I just received the response, and it does clarify things, especially where the "gray area" is concerned. I'm confident that I'm totally in the clear and will happily continue utilizing MailChimp as my email marketing service of choice.

p.s. If you are using your lists in an opposing way to what the email below suggests...then your probably the type of marketer that I would unsubscribe from immediately anyway.

      We're here to help.
      Hi,
Good afternoon! Affiliate Marketing is definitely a gray area--we list it in our TOU, however there is a way to do affiliate links and be compliant with MailChimp and a way that isn't.
Basically the content in the campaigns must reflect the content of the domain where the folks are opting-in--we don't allow cross promotion.
For example, say you have a website called All About Whales and you are sending campaigns about Whales and include a couple of links to your affiliate site Seahorses Forever. That should be ok because the campaign would still be branded as All About Whales with just a few links to Seahorses Forever.
However if you send a campaign all about Seahorses Forever with no branding for All About Whales, then we wouldnt be able to support sending because the contacts technically didn't opt-into receiving news from Seahorses Forever and they wouldn't be expecting to receive that email.
So as long as you are sending to a list that has specifically opted-into receive news from your site, and the campaigns are branded as coming from your site with a few affiliate links, then that should probably be fine.
However if you ever have questions wondering if your campaigns are complaint, simply send an email to compliance@mailchimp.com and we will be happy to take a look!
We hope this helps to clarify things! Please email us back if you have other specific questions or comments that we can help you with and have a wonderful day!
      Fair enough? I think so

    Hi,

ive been researching on the same for past one week.

Initially i chose Gmail to be my auto-responder. But, nope. The canned Response in gmail doesnt not send a response to "Reply-To:" address. So, that was not an option.

Mailchimp has only Double opt-in. Big Nope for me.
Aweber too expensive for me after the first month of $1.

Check out this plugin for wordpress called Wysija. Their rating and the number of features look promising. The free version can handle upto 2000 subscribers. Im yet to install and try it out.

Any reviews of List Wire? Anybody?

      Hey Hardikvg and fellow warriors.

Personally I'd go Aweber, I know you said it's a little pricey for you right now but honestly the ease of use and tracking will save you time (money) and make you email marketing more effective.

I've used a few others and have never been tempted to move elsewhere.

I'm sure some other guys will say getresponse and others and I guess it's whatever suits you best and makes life the easiest for you.

Whatever you decide I wish you luck!

You Can't go Wrong with AWEBER!
Lucky for me, I have the old account (with old price too ) The different is only small analytic that can install in your domain (Java script like Google Analytic) so you can see your subscriber behavior / doing on your site..

Other than that the old account 100% exact same layout and can be use for track link, split test, open rate, etc

But if the problems is budget, you can choose the aweber alternative like Imnica or trafficwave

The problem you will have with self-hosted autoresponder/e-mail marketing scripts (including the WP plug ins) is that your shared hosting account will be in jeopardy if you try sending out a lot of e-mails. You can choke the send but that kind of defeats the object and can still land you in trouble. So you may well have to factor in the cost of a VPS or dedicated server not too far down the road.

Also, you have to stay within the law and ensure that you are inboxing with the main e-mail clients from your server. Not as simple a solution as it appears.

One alternative is to use a service like SendGrid in conjunction with self-hosted but that could be a little more pricey and will lack the flexibility of having a complete service which will enable you to create all kinds of webforms and will integrate with other tools easily.

I have used (and still use) ImnicaMail, GetResponse and have a Listwire account too.

From my experience with these, currently I would massively recommend GetResponse. The thing is packed with useful features at a reasonable price.

ImnicaMail was my favourite. It has always been good for the lower cost but it has been having some inboxing issues with Gmail and Yahoo of late. In fairness, this is being worked on and it is improving again. I think there is also a major features overhaul due to be rolled out in the coming months. It needs it as, sad to say, the functionality and ease of use that you find with GetResponse leaves it in the dust right now.

Listwire is free but has some very serious drawbacks in my opinion. I, personally, would no longer recommend it at all, although there are some who think it is marvelous.

I hear good and bad about Aweber. It, too, had some reported deliverability issues with Yahoo a while back (not sure how true this was but there were a lot of moans being voiced at the time). The marketing community no longer seem to be as enamored as it was a couple of years back. Some "big players" you will have heard of have been told that Aweber no longer wants their business of late as they try to appeal more to large blue-chip clients rather than individual entrepreneurs that make up the majority of online marketers.

My advice... Invest in a good service.

Now...Landing pages. I always used html pages as I thought that using Wordpress for this was overkill. But it is much faster and easier to create landing page variants for split testing using Profits Theme or Optimize Press. Those who say OP is hard, start at lunchtime in Dreamweaver making 6 styles of landing page for testing. I will have done it in OP or PT and spent most of the afternoon in the pub with traffic to my pages while you have been messing about. It doesn't get much easier.

I reckon you can't go wrong with Optimize Press + GetResponse

    Hi,

    thanks Paleochora.

My hoster says, it is ok to install an autoresponder or an wp autoresponder plugin as long as we get no discomfort- what he mean with that, I don't know but I hve ask back again, he must little bit describe that, also what they mean with this.

I only use double opt in (within in the law in europe)- so that this must not give problems.
I think I must regulary extract and backup my wp data base from old emails, to have an actual unbloated wp data base, within this I not get trouble with my hoster, so Im not in the gaming, gamble, adult niche....

So this is an good option for me to start my business slow with low budget. And when I make good money, than I can invest more in my business-this is old school-but solid it is usual in the business scene.

OK, when anyone US Investor give me 15.000$ Credit, with this ,oh yeah I can start with a bigger online business, but I don't have such an US Investor. But for an european this is not possible :-(

    And last but not least I always must sream loud about that, what I miss in many us business;
That an business partner (amazon, or your hoster in this example) don't make clear unequivocal contract7 rules with you in their TOS. I always must say loud this, it is not serious that an hoster shoot you down when you have an own autoresponder, so he must that declare in his TOS, why so many in USA not make this? In USA it is usual that an serious business partner which you can make business by handshake ,so someone is highly regarded and respected, in europe this is usual. Not make any TOS like this; want to , can , perhaps only vague clauses, this is not serious. When you are an webdesigner and make such contracts with your clients full of such vague clauses, would you make a contract with him? I bet NO!

When a hoster not have such rules in his TOS so he can not shut down you account when you have ann autoresponder when your hoster this not have forbidden in his rules,or not?

I find such a behavior not serious in Europe or USA or any other country, it is not normal, this is not a golden rule.
When I read Dale Carnegie I wonder about that , or are Dale Carnegies rules are not worth the paper who is written??

I've tried them all and keep returning to Aweber. But, for a new blog I'm currently trying out GWA Auto responder PLUS the Yoast Postmark Email Plugin for Wordpress.

To quote Postmark: "This plugin replaces WordPress' internal email sending functionality by routing all email through Postmark, greatly enhancing email reliability. If you rely on your WordPress install to send you email, this plugin along with the awesome service from Postmark makes sure that it actually does reach its destination.Emails sent through Postmark will, if you've set up your email addresses in Postmark correctly, show up as signed in people's inboxes."

So far, this experiment is going well and I'm happy with the combination of the two plugins.
