Is it possible to Rank an old post?

I am doing a case study and testing out a theory that you can rank a post or article that is pre 2010 above an article posted in 2011 from a major site. Does anybody else here have any experience in such? for example I want to get this old seattle article for my uncle Robert wolverton death and obituary notice to show up on the front page for seattle pi deaths name (insert name from obituary here) but am not sure if it's possible.

Testing out a DFB, Backblast, and press release submissions.

Feedback and questions welcome

Kinda confused as what you are trying to rank for, but generally yes you can rank that keyword. Keep in mind that its gonna be slightly more tough as the title tags aren't optimized for the persons name on that post.

Also, it greatly depends on what the competition is for the keyword you are trying to optimize for. Sometimes one persons name can have a TON of competition making it difficult to rank for that name.

You can definitely rank an old post- in a way it might be easier to rank since Google's seen it longer.

It should actually be easier to rank or at least establish a stable rank with.

I 100% agree with James and Justin above...

You can definitely rank an old post, and as they said...it will actually be easier as that page has aged in Google's eyes...

Obviously post you trying to rank must be optimized for the keyword you trying to rank for, and then depending on the strength of competition, your offsite link building will have to be better...
