I once received a case study about this.
The guy checked eBay Pulse and top sellers in Amazon.
The guy then set up Adwords campaigns linking directly to his affiliate link for certain, best-selling, in demand products that had been discounted within Amazon.
    He used keywords like
    "buy +(product name)"
    "purchase +(product name)"
    "discount +(product name)"

I'm sure better qualified Warriors will have more ideas.

    Hi

I use them but have yet to make money from them yet - not even traffic yet.

They pay about 15% but I like having the products on my site in the hope that they may encourage visitors to stay longer.

Amazon provides all the tools you need - you can have certains products or link to a store where you choose what to have in it etc.

I recommend books on blog and sometimes on Websites, both ones I've written and read and like a lot.
It's just a trickle of money.
Best month was Dec 2007 at maybe $100 -- I really only do maybe $200 a year on Amazon. Barely worth it for me.

To make this work, you need a decent amount of traffic and you must be promoting a product on Amazon that fills a specific need. I am told that review sites for specific products like gamers, etc. do OK.

If you're interested in making money check out the Info Product Killer course (there are testimonials for it here on one of the boards). I have been putting amazon links on my book review site for a year and made less than $10. After following parts of the IPK course I made $100 in a month.

I just got through testing the Amazon affiliate program over Christmas for an upcoming product I'm developing. I used a blog that I normally just use to test stuff on. It only gets about 50 visitors per day through organic traffic. I made 1 single blog post called something like " Top 10 Christmas Gifts for Women " and linked to the top bestsellers for women on Amazon and brought in $224 bucks just in the month of December. From one blog post! No PPC. No advertising anywhere. It was all pure organic search engine traffic. If I duplicate my efforts and have 10 blog posts doing even half as well would mean theoretically, that I could bring in around 1000 bucks a month.

Of course you have to do your keyword research and optimize your blog for SEO and such but thats not very hard to do. I could even improve my results if I used adwords but I have not done that yet because this was purely a test. Something that took me at most 20 minutes to write and research made me $224 bucks in one month. That's not too bad. I'm happy with the results so I think Amazon is well worth it.

    • I've been using the Amazon affiliate program for quite some time and while it has not been a huge money maker for me (I've made a few hundred dollars here and there), I've learned to use the product information to help drive traffic to my eBay affiliate links. It is there where I have made the most money.

I've discussed how I've used this information in another post here on the forum Is there a Amazon wordpress plugin that does this?

Hopefully some one will find this useful.

Review sites do exceptionally well when you can show the buyer customer comments on a particular product along with a graphical rating image, like the star rating system.

PPC traffic is perfect for these types of sites because it is targeted, like a laser beam to match up products with buyers who are hungry to purchase or who are just hungry for information to help them make a purchase decision.

Personally, I like to experiment with different affiliate feeds and create sort of a "mashup" between them. While one may not bring in a ton of cash, it can spark interest in the product and drive sales through another program.

      Hi

Yes, as someone mentioned before if you want to learn about how to make money as an Amazon Affiliate then I would reccomend Info product killer.

Basically without saying too much about how it works the guide shows you how to find the best selling Amazon products and how to get REALLY good listings on the search engines.

You can use these techniques all year round.

      Just my 2 pence...

      Here is the link:

      >> (affiliate link ) Info Product Killer

      >> (normal link) Info Product Killer

I used the guide over the Christmas period and did quite well.

One day I did over £90 in affiliate sales!

      Hope this helps.

I was an Amazon affiliate once and was trying to sell books online and I cant tell you how terrible the promoting work was.. it was just awful and I really never managed to sell not more than 10 books over 1 year time.. I would probably don't waste my time with them again after that terrible experience.

If you're using RSS feeds from other sites and data feeds to create auto-post blogs and you plan on creating 100s of them then this is not a bad model at all... but it definitely needs to be 'scaled up' to achieve your desired income.

Then again, so do most IM activities

You might want to look up "Jeff Johnson" ...he's a guru at 'blog and ping' with Adsense and Amazon sites.

      Oscar D,

It was on a domain. It's nothing much. I think it's like a PR1 or 2 domain. I just use it to test. Before then I had not made a post to that blog in months if I remember correctly.

I did a few more posts like that one because I wanted to make sure I could replicate it.

If you want some more info shoot me a pm and I'll send you over the link so you can see what I did.

I call it pocket change... trickles in but not great revenue. Depends on how much traffic you get and how well-targeted it is, to some extent. And as was pointed out above, it depends on scaling up with more sites, with a little income from each. At least that has been my experience with their affiliate program.

It is possible to make a lot of money on Amazon, I make 4 figures every month - sometimes 5. I'm sure there are others making a lot more.

Like anything else, it's not for everybody - but if you do it right then you can profit very well.

If you want to put a few links on your website then you will probably make a few dollars. If you are comfortable with ppc and have an ad budget then you can make a lot more. If you can mix ppc in with some other standard techniques then you can do very nicely indeed.

I followed the IPK (Info Product Killer) method through the holidays and made $2700 (this is with my PPC costs deducted...my Amazon account shows around $3400). This was my first real effort promoting Amazon, though I signed up over a year ago.

Targeting specific products (reviews, product descriptions, etc.) really works well. Once you get the volume going you'll move from 4% commission to 8% and even higher (I only reached 8%).

My sites all targeted fairly low priced items, so now I'm moving toward higher commission items to boost my income.

The Amazon program rules because they are great at getting people to fill their carts.

I do wish their cookie was longer than 1 day...

Very briefly, you need to be trading on both the trust of the Amazon brand combined with the trust of a well known branded product. e.g.

        Buy Sony PS3 at Amazon

Then you need to pick the right keywords ...

        Sony PS3 - wrong
        [Buy Sony PS3] - right

... and if you can supplement that with a nice related website that you already own, a few articles, Squidoo lenses etc. so much the better (but the ppc is enough on its own if you do it right).

Hope that helps, even if you hate ppc.

I take it back. I don't hate PPC...I just don't get it. It's amazing that SEO, RSS Feeds, WordPress, Conversion Tracking, etc. makes total sense in my brain, yet I continually fail every time I do PPC marketing.

However, it seems like you're direct linking to the product 'buy page' on Amazon? No lander?

This might be easier than I thought ...I assume the competition is pretty spare for long tailed product names (Like Nikon XL40 Camera or whatever).

          I'll give it a go!

You pretty much have it right there I'd say. Direct linking works best for me - if you want to use a landing page - to avoid Google's double serving rules perhaps - do your best to make it really obvious that the customer will be buying from Amazon. Emulate the look of Amazon without copying it, similar colour scheme, links to Amazon category pages, Amazon search box etc. and you should do fine.

As far as linking goes I use general, phrase and exact - it really does depend on the product and the keyword. You need to play around with it a bit I guess - but I have never had a losing month in over 2 years - so I'm sure you can work it out pretty fast.

            Good luck.

Got to be careful with them as they can screw you in certain situations like "Available at external websites" options. This is where they take advertising money from other customers, and when your traffic clicks on that link and buys something, you get nothing from amazon. I have not seen this option in Books, but do see it also in other departments.

I make minimal money from them and only have them on my site as a third option when my first and second options don't have the products.

I don't do PPC but articles and SEO.

I'm getting about a 10% conversion rate per click to Amazon.

What's interesting is how many sales are made that were not the exact product you link to.

    Hi Oscar

I make quite a bit on amazon having shops for different niches on the internet. I will struggle in some niches finding enough products to offer so offering affiliate products on Amazon works as a great alternative.

For example i am in the food niche (well my hubby is) and he will write a blog post about how much he loves a celebrity chef and then link back to it.

    Kind regards

One of the easiest and best "extras" to add to whatever it is you are doing. Good mashup component.

If you plan to go with amazon you may do best in odd / smaller niches where conversions, at least for me, tend to be surprisingly high. I don´t use their ads, rather incorporate it into posts.

I sell review products over the $100 range. Th commssion for a $100 product will be around $7 and $14 for a $200 product. This is a little less than what you can get with clickbank products but the difference is the conversion rate.

My conversion rate is around 9% from Amazon which means that for every 100 people I send to Amazon 9 will buy something. Compare that to 1% for most digital products and you'll see just how great Amazon's affiliate program really is.

Just make sure you target products over the $100 range to make it worth your while because people looking for specific products on the search engines already wants to buy the product so price doesn't really matter.

      Cheers

I make quite a bit of money per month using Amazon Associates. I've been ramping up for Christmas for the last month and I plan on getting to 5 figures for November, December, and hopefully the beginning of next year.

I use all sorts of methods to get people to my Amazon link, but I normally make a standalone Wordpress site with the links in the text, and a picture or two that link to Amazon Associates links as well. Throw in articles that have top level redirects and links to your site and write like crazy, and you can make some great money.

Amazon is great because people will remember that they need to buy stuff they have been putting off, and they figure they might as well get it now.

Plus they do such a great job of up-selling and selling related products on their site.

I had someone buy a Canon camera for $2,000 and a 50-pack of Cheetohs in the same buying session!

amazon is one of my biggest partners beside adsense. They have almost everything people want to buy, they offer good service and they are trusted.

Earning with amazon is quite easy. Just choose a few product keywords out of their bestsellers, build a website wit amazon affiliate links and promote the products as well as your new website.
