Give It All Away Or Make It An Auto-Responder?

I am working on a "how to speed up your computer" guide. My original thought was to give away the entire product for free in PDF format. In order to get this free PDF though they would have to share an FB message or tweet and then join my auto-responder.

The thought with the free product is it makes the site something people want to share and tell their friends about. Which will give some time to work on SEO rankings.

I plan on making money from this by also offering a paid product that includes the PDF but also audio, videos, checklists, etc.

Does this seem like a viable plan? Has anyone else had success with this kind of model?

The only other model that I thought of to use the free/paid system was on the free side to setup an auto-responder that delivers a small portion of the guide every week for some amount of time (with all the content I have it would probably be 2-3 months before it is all received). And, they could obviously purchase the premium guide, video, audio, check lists, etc at any time.

Does this second model make more sense?

This probably is not enough to get somebody to upgrade to a paid version.

If the PDF gives them the answer... why should I pay for anything? It's a tough sell.

Moreover... this market likely does not want to LEARN how to speed up their computer. They just want an instant quick-fix.

So... a better model would be:

    1. A freebie that illustrates the problem (shows them why they need you)
    2. A paid product that solves the problem for them instantly (or as quickly as possible)

You also need to answer how your solution is different than the competition.

This is where a freebie PDF can be really helpful.

Thanks for the information. My free & paid product was planned as an instant fix as you describe. I will give this some more thought though to think about I can engage visitors to share & still make money!

      Thanks again!
