I accidently hit the mobile website bonanza

just a heads up for mobile web site developers, and sellers.

I sent out a test email campaign to 200 local companies.

i have over 40 positive email replies ( some with app times/dates)
and my phone has been ringing off the hook ...

any way, thought some of you guys might like to try it out your selves

-Rick

I am not going to give you the email verbatim, but the jist was this,

-------------------

Hi, i am rick , and i noticed you do not have a website for cellphones,
I am fairly new to the mobile market, i jumped in because i saw how much money is to be made if a business is set up properly with a mobile website.

Since you are losing money

and i am fairly new to the market

Maybe we can help each other out.

I will be willing to create a basic mobile ready site for you for free.
all i need in return is a meeting with you, regarding how you want the site to function and look. and i need your expertise to help me learn what it is business want so that i perfect my sales pitch, and make some money myself.

here are the last 3 mobile sites i worked on

one
two
three

You can let me know when the best time is to get together by email
or simply calling my cell ( xxx-xxxx )

Thank you for your time,
Rick

That's a good response as long as you don't just give away all your time for free and actually get them to pay for something.

Well then ... mobile website bonanza headline is just a bit premature. You should post again your results after you close them all.

Depends on the 'lead'. I was in Caribou Coffee and the place was full of people who found out they just started selling sandwiches because they were checking for the nearest Starbucks on their smart phone. (& it was a pain in the.....)

hey guys i was just trying to be nice and show yall how i got some leads.
i have been doing sales for a long time, if i can get my foot in the door, or get some one to pick up the phone, i can sell them. in this case offering free mobile site and allowing them to tell me what they want will give me the "in" i need to offer my seo services, or mobile maintenance, or upsell, them anythign i have in my bag of goodies that may fit the situation.

i simply got excited about the return on the emails and the phone calls, i don't usually get such a high return or such positive feed back. these people will be expecting to see me, and if they keep the appointment, i will have the chance i need. i wasn't being calouse when i said ill close them , i was assuming the sale, as i have learnt to do over the years.

Maybe it would have been more PR to say ill close some of them ....

      Rick

p.s having hot fresh leads wanting to talk to me... IMHO is a bonaza
and sure ill post the results, first set off apps is tomorrow.

a 20% return of positive feedback is nothing to sneeze at. People can try to pee in your cornflakes, but it looks to me you've got 40 potential offline clients. I say go for it!

I think you would get an abundant amount of great feedback if you had put this in the offline marketing section.

With that email, are you targeting businesses with high value clients? Nothing wrong with using a freebie as an in as long as there's some real treasure versus fools gold once the door is opened.

I wouldn't offer to them for free...but that's just me...getting a foot in the door is great, but give them the impression that your work is of some value. Otherwise this strategy could effectively bite you in the a**.

      Mate,

Well done may be it will work and may be it will not. At least you have the guys to contact some people. I think most people get into internet marketing as they think they can sit in front of there computer all day setting up sites to cash in on other peoples work. You are one of the select few ( a group i also belong to

Best of luck mate, keep me updated.

I think you should charge atleast some minor fee, it will make some income as well as provide you customers who are serious at what they are buying.

This is a great way to get your foot int he door. Maybe from that they can go ahead and send out referrals and get other people to come on board (for $$$ of course).

    Keep it up.

    1. You can definitely give away mobile websites for free and then charge a monthly hosting fee - this is no different to the multi-million dollar companies that have been set up doing the exact same thing but with regular websites. I know of several people who are using this technique very successfully.

    2. I can see why some people are skeptical about this thread. The original post is talking about his success generating leads for his offline service and in his signature is a WSO for... you guessed it... "Most advanced lead generating system to ever be made public.
Generate Thousands of Pre-Qualified Leads an Hour!!!"

And your signature is also about mobile marketing... People's signature is going to point to things that they have expertise in (hopefully). I think that people are a little too weary of sig files, just my opinion.

These are the new leads. These are the Glengarry leads. And to you they're gold, and you don't get them. Why? Because to give them to you would be throwing them away. They're for closers.

Quick update for those that asked.

mon, i got a flat tire on the way to my first app.
that put me 30 min behind. i was running late all day
and by the end of the day, my appointments were not even there
        when i got there.

I completely bombed the first few, not becuase they were bad leads,
because i wasn't focused, and i had not worked my pitch out for this angle.

Went home mon night, decided on an angle. the angle would be,
I will do do your site for free and you will host with me, and i will
do all your site upgrades for a fee.

Tues: went to 3 app useing that strategy, That did NOT go over too well.

( it was the word upgrade , as soon as i said it i could just about see them cringe and see money flying out the window, and the main question was how often it would need to be upgraded )

So at lunch time i took some time to rework my angle.

And i remember some one here on WF saying they use the angle of
bieng a reporter or something, asking if they were happy with there current set up and what not, so. i thought, i can try that with some modifications

I did not pretend i am a reporter doing a story, but i completely changed tactics, and started the conversation with ( WHY do you want a mobile site, how is your website doing sales wise for you, how much are you spending on it, are you happy with your current set up )

not a single person said they were happy with the amount of sales they were making, and not a single one of them was able to track the actual sales they were making from websites.... it was the new hook
so i asked them strait up, if i could fix there issues, show them how to track conversions, set them up with a kick ass mobile site, would they sign up with me .... THIS APPROACH worked
        man it worked.

i wound up with 3 sales tues, i only had half a day to work wed, and my 9 am app was also a sale.

and wed nigte one of the sales i made from tues called me and asked if i had a text messaging service ...

so i am happy, give the angle a try guys, its def worth it
