What smart phone and carrior should I get? (in USA)

If you are doing IM and mobile marketing what phone/carrior are you using?

I have a 3 year old IPhone that is acting up. It's unlocked and works on T-Mobile for phone and home wi-fi but I need internet connection all the time. Besides the camera isn't good enough to use QR codes. I need to get a new phone that I'll use for mobile marketing, txt, general websurfing etc. No movies or heavy streaming.

I thinking of something other than an Iphone this time since Android is starting to dominate so there are plenty of other apps now available.

What is comparable to an Iphone? It's hard to compare since most phones stores don't let you try them out, except apple stores.

I hate contracts so I'm looking for something month to month.

Anyone use metro PCS?

Thanks, RMX

What about the new 2.3 Android O/S ??? Getting great revues from everyone. Also gives access to tons of Google Apps. I just heard that the Motorola Atrix...is being given away free from one of the major players. Great value...selling for more than $400 just a couple of months ago.

LG Optimus phone & Virgin Mobile for the carrier. Great phone and best deals on the planet bar none.

I got rid of mine and recommend you do the same if you are able. I refused to believe that I could be without it for a long time. But now all I have is a "dumb" phone, and I leave it turned off most of the time.

    It's liberating!

If you want an entry-level Android phone, you could try the T-Mobile Pay As You Go plan and then try the Motorola Cliq or Cliq XT. It's a lot smaller than the high end 'movie screen' phones, but it does what I need it to.

I definitely think that Android is the way to go.

I thought almost all carriers will allow you to go without a contract if you buy the phone yourself. I have not confirmed this with any of the big carriers lately, though.

If you do want to purchase from a name brand carrier and still have the no contract I think Virgin Mobile can't be beat. They have lots of phones to choose from and their no contract plans can't be beat.

Wait for the iphone 5 - it will be out the end of August or beginning of september. the new iOS 5 upgrade is going to be wonderful. Lots of new features.

Apple is going to start selling the phone to different carriers as well.

I have an HTC Inspire 4G with ATT for personal business use. Phone is awesome, service with ATT absolutely blows.

I have a Droid X2 with Verizon for company use. Phone is slightly less-awesome but the service is more reliable. Cost for me to have personally would be $5 more than I am paying now with ATT--but way better service.

I used to swear by Blackberries, but since Android has come out, I don't recommend anything else.

iPhone, no question. I love the fact that it is an ipod, and a smartphone in one. also 02 is really good and tends to have great coverage.
