These people are full of crap... seriously.

If you're new at this game.. or experienced but not
yet realizing your dreams... pay attention... LISTEN UP!

In the last couple days I've received an autoresponder series
from one of the biggest of the bigs... both addressed to...

"NoInfo"

WTF???

I know he has my name because he's one of the few people
who I intentionally sought out and signed up for his "newsletter"

Wanna know what's really funny about this? The subject of the
first email was good copy writing. Anyone see what the problem
might be with promoting a "good" copy writing course with copy
that starts out trying to be personal with the wrong name?

Yeah... that's an easy one... lol

OK... here's the real reason I wanted to speak with you today...

The second email from this marketer wandered down the familiar
path of "tips and tricks" for succeeding in today's market.

You've seen this, right? What USED to work isn't cutting
it any longer. Things change at the speed of light on the 'net.
What worked just two years ago... heck... even 6 months ago
is now obsolete.

The answer, of course, is to buy the new stuff... get the real deal... yada... yada... yada.

Did I mention that THESE PEOPLE ARE FULL OF CRAP?

HERE'S THE LISTEN UP PART...

If your business is built on "tricks" you will soon discover that
people catch on to those "tricks" and... yes... you will need to
learn new "tricks" every now and then or you'll be left in the dust
by the truly up-to-date tricksters.

OR...

You'll take a step back and figure out that human nature hasn't
changed in centuries... people still want to be better, faster, smarter,
leaner, prettier, wealthier and more emotionally secure than they
are now...

You might even figure out that offering these people HONEST SOLUTIONS
to their problems has ALWAYS worked and will ALWAYS work.

No "tricks" needed.

Carry on...

    Good points, T.

It's the difference between principles and techniques. Principles don't change, but some of the techniques may. However, that doesn't mean the techniques themselves are what causes the desired action.

The first analogy that popped into mind was fad diets. The principle for losing weight is to burn more calories than your body stores, but the fad diets use different techniques to make that happen. (Actually, some of them use the techniques in the hopes of disgusing the underlying principle.)

Hmm...now that I think about it, perhaps 'gimmicks' is a better word than 'techniques' for the sake of this discussion.

    All the best,
    Michael

Great post! I can't stand the dishonest, false, and misleading email subjects. The ones I really can't stand and make me hit the unsubscribe link instantly are these type:

    "3rd NOTICE - (please respond)"

    "Transaction Receipt For"

    "PRIVATE MESSAGE"

    "ACCOUNT CREATED"

They obviously don't know (or care) that those types of subjects are in violation of the CAN-SPAM Act. It's pretty sad when someone has to stoop to that level to use those types of subjects just to try and get their subscribers to open the email. Nothing will make me unsubscribe any quicker than a misleading and dishonest subject, so not sure why some using them would feel they're effective as it just ticks off their subscribers and makes then unsubscribe. Sure some would fall for it, but eventually they're going to catch on after a few message and hit the unsubscribe link.

"Transaction receipt" seems to pop up in every 3rd email subject in my inbox!
