The Common Screen Resolution?

5 replies
This had been asked years ago, but I'm wondering this has changed today with all the new wide screen LCDs, mobile phones, Ipads, etc. coming out.

As far as computer / laptop screens are concerned, is 1024x768 pixels still the most commonly used resolution today? Or has that already changed? Just asking, to keep up with the times!

Edmund

P.S. I'm still on 1024x768... and (don't laugh) it's still a CRT. It's the only thing original about all of my computer from a decade ago so I've got nostalgic feelings attached.

    For a lot of our sites we optimize for 1280x720 as that seems to be the standard for our users with 16:9 screens (laptops and LCD) but if you work off of 1024x768 you will be fine.

    All the best

    This wikipedia article had some stats about the most commonly used resolutions:

    Surprisingly, it looks like a lot has changed.

    @aliduncan thanks for the link.

    Says here:

    Higher than 1024Ã--768 85.1%
    1024Ã--768 13.8%
    800Ã--600 0.6%
    Lower than 800Ã--600 0%

    Yep, times have changed indeed. Just a couple years back this same question was thrown to the WF and there was like 80% people replying 1024x768 pixels.

  • From a standard consumer, most portable laptops now a days come at 1360x768, and bigger laptops or desktop screens come at 1600x1050.
