I AM THINKING OF STARTING AN EMAILING SERVICE--WOULD LIKE SOME WARRIOR FEEDBACK

I have tried a couple of those permission based emailing services with terrible results. I have found out that most are scams. Recently I have discovered a script and some very good sources of permission based double opt in email that can be geographically or demographically targeted.

I am considering starting a mass emailing service to mail for other marketers in addition to myself to offset the cost. This would probably be great for newbies and seasoned marketers alike.

I may decide to do the first couple clients at no charge just to gain credibility. I was just wondering what my fellow warriors think of this idea. Does it seem like anyone would take advantage of it?? Has anyone tried this already??

I don't think you've given enough info. Are you talking about free lists? Or free solo ads? Most often those business models only benefit the people drawing in the clients.

It's hard enough to market to folks who have signed up to receive your offers. But trying to market to people that don't know you is grueling. I tried the free list thing years ago. I sent out tens of thousands of emails and made one or two sales as I remember.

I'm not saying your idea is bad. It's just that without knowing the specifics it's hard to comment.

Thanks for your response. I am referring to actually BUYING permission based lists myself that are current and then mailing to them. I would then mass mail to the lists. You have brought up a the very point that I was worried about. I am not sure how the response would be from folks that dont even know who I am or who my client is that I would be sending emails for.

I'd imagine that an emailing service would be a tough gig. It's a constant battle to keep off of the black-lists. And then once you're on the black-lists, your service is pretty much useless after that.

Those big name emailing services earn every cent.

Oh I see what you're saying. How specific are the demographics? And is there any way of knowing how the list was made? For instance- I'd hate to send just about any subject matter to a list that was gained by offering up a "free iphone", or something like that.

Well, I would know the source of the leads, meaning what product or service that was ordered or inquired about. Sometimes its just members of a certain type of forum or membership site. From that you can have an idea of what they may be interested in.

I know I would be able to target GENDER and GEOGRAPHIC LOCATION however, there are a few other factors that I need to check out concerning demos.

I'm not really fond of it that is why I don't know much about it but the way I see it. Emailing service is a one good thing because it offers a plenty storage and spam filtering.

Ahh, you mentioned spam filtering. This is one of the negatives I am having to consider. I have spoken with someone who had started an emailing service and they said that sometimes a legitimate emailing service will look bad to their clients and its not the fault of the service.

For example, many of the clients will be inexperienced and they will write an email that is LOADED with words that will be caught by the spam filters and not be delivered. They may just plain not be able to write a decent headline or sales page either. However, worse yet, they load the HEADLINE of the email with SPAM filter triggers. They get very poor results then blame the emailing service for no responses.

Better save your ducketts. It's neither cheap nor simple to run a ESP. You better have at least 2k a month set aside and another 5k for a consultant or employee to manage FBLs and complaints as well as someone who knows enough to setup all the systems. Probably looking at about 7500 first month and you could eek by on about 2k a month recurring.

Well, it wouldnt be anywhere near that expensive for me. I wouldnt be hosting on my own server. However, the idea of customers being unhappy at me for the faults of thier own is a big negative. Also, I am seriously considering your comment about handling complaints. I don't need that. I am the kind of guy that has to feel that people know Im honest and are happy with my service. If I had one complaint, it would really bother me.

I could this being very profitable for you, but I would think the hassle of making sure you keep the list happy would be to stressful. I do not have great experience with this, but I know to do something like this takes a lot of moderating.
