Poll: Which is the more powerful domain name?

Hypothetical: Let's say you wanted to go for the keywords "basketball". Basketball.com is taken, so which would be the next best domain to buy based only on where it would get you in the search rankings?

Hey guys, to be more specific : I'm wondering which domain name is more powerful strictly based on googles algorithm of determining which one would be ranked higher. Another way to explain it:

If I bought basketball1.com and basketballs.net and put the same content on both (let's ignore the fact that google would detect it as duplicate content), which one do you think would be ranked higher?

When I ask a question you hope that someone has already done research and can give you a quick answer, that's one of the purposes of forums and is a completely logical thing to do.

Look at the forum boards here, it's filled with questions and people asking for assistance. Sometimes I'm the one asking questions, sometimes I'm the one answering questions; we help each other.

I just did a quick search and found a question you asked,

The first time right after he uploaded his email list from yahoo, like LinkedIn encourages you to do in the first place.

Is it a percentage of people that do not connect back with you, or a certain number of I do not know him or spam replies?

How do they determine he is doing this? I am looking to find out what the safest course of action is for him.

Someone could have easily said "are we doing your research for you on this?" but they decided to not post illogical statements, answered your question and you thanked them for their input.

My point in responding to you like this is so you can come to the conclusion that the way you think about people asking others to "do research" for them is flawed and you should stop and make the board an even better place to read.

I'd probably look for a suffix. So basketballtalk.com, basketballhome.com etc.

I'd avoid hyphens and go for .com where possible.

Most web surfers will think about the .com before they would think about .org, .biz or .net.

        Hold up there cowboy.

I have .com that rank way better than .org or .net

But I have a health and fitness site that is dot .org that is PR1 and has been there for many years. We get lots of traffic and sales from this, as we have tested and tracked everything.

It is not the address people worry about it is the quality info you are providing.

        Simple as that.

Depends... Yeah your not going to get basketball unless they are willing to sale..

your domain needs to be about your site so if its a site about news in basketball then make it something like

    "Basketball Today, Basketball today.. etc.."

Or make it going towards a certain thing like "Howtoplaybasketball, Basketballshoes, etc"

Not enough info. We'd have to know the niche within the basketball market. It could be equipment, shoes, memorabilia , or any number of other sub-markets.

The niche isn't relevant to the question in any way.
