Article Marketing 'Erker' - Is There A Solution

It's no secret article marketing is hard work, and here's the problem I can't get around...

I'm pretty sure I do everything right, extensive keyword research, keyword rich title's, and my keywords peppered through out. I only use the free Google tool which gives monthly search volume. I find the keywords with 1000 to 4000 searches a month, with low comp., and write my article.

Usually, a few days after approval my articles rank pretty well, but they never stay ranked "pretty well" for more than a week or 2. So now I've done all of this research based on monthly search volume, but my articles never stay on the first page any where near 30 days.

I know that search volume is random, so to say 4000 searches a month is a 1000 searches a week is a shot in the dark.

Is there a formula, besides, just keep crankin em out, to getting around this?

Thanks,

Vincent

      Back links to the articles?
If thats what you mean, no, I've never done that.

Where are you publishing your articles, on your site, to a directory, somewhere else?

      Usually just Ezine and articlebase..

This isn't going to work, I'm afraid. That isn't article marketing: it's article directory marketing. It may have been a viable business model at one time, but not - for most people - since I've been online, anyway.

Vinny, will it help you if I give you a list of about 8 or 10 threads here, to read through slowly and carefully, to develop an understanding of what "article marketing" is and how it works? It'll be quite a lot of reading, but it may be helpful to you? ...

(Annie's post right above is a good start, too! ).

Alexa, it would be great if you were toost those threads here for me to have a look at, as I'm currently drawing up a business plan and would like to get to grips with a viable business based on article marketing...

This very good but very long thread explains in detail why it's so important to publish articles on your own site first, before submitting them anywhere else (and a lot of the indicental chat in it touches on other "basic article marketing questions").

This one explains a lot of stuff about "spinning" and why most professional article marketers think it's a waste of time, and based on fallacies and mistaken beliefs about "duplicate content".

This one explains why it's seriously bad news to create backlinks to article directories.

This one explains a bit more about article directories and writing for syndication.

This one is about "unique content" and a bit about link-juice, I think.

This one is about writing for syndication.

And in this excellent little article an expert writer/marketer explains "duplicate content" to perfection.

Hey I'd love that too if you're inclined to put it together! I've been doing a ton of reading and your posts have been by far some of the biggest resources for piecing some of this methodology together.

Often the difference between a successful person and a failure is not one has better abilities or ideas, but the courage that one has to bet on one’s ideas, to take a calculated risk – and to act.

      ^^^^ This.

Without knowing the answer to this, we can't tell whether what you're doing actually IS "article marketing" or just "article directory marketing".

If it's article directory marketing, you may need a Large Strategic Re-Think about your business model, to find the solution. Depending on article directories for their own traffic and their own backlinks isn't really a viable business. It's normally a constant "rinse and repeat" because the effect of each article is only temporary and you never build up a real business, that way. And with the article directories having been so dramatically devalued (as even their owners openly admit) by Google, that's only going to get worse, not better.

And "building backlinks to them" is NOT the answer! :p

You should first be publishing all your articles on your own website. Only when you know they have been indexed by Google should you move forward and post them (without any editing) on Ezine Articles and maybe ArtilceBase and GoArticles.

Your overriding priority should then be building backlinks to the article(s) on your website using good off-page SEO.

This is what will reap long-term, viral results.

This is a big help, believe it or not I had it backwards.. (Noobs)

I've been submitting articles, then using bits and pieces on my site.

        So again,

        Thank you

If you create good-quality content that Authority Publishers will want to publish on their websites and in their newsletters, you will find that your rankings in Google will also benefit.

Authority Publishers got to be that way, because they put the needs of their readers ahead of the desires of marketers. They became Authority Publishers, because they focused on giving their readers what their readers want.

If you create good-quality content that attracts publication in an authority website or newsletter, then you will reach a real audience and all other pieces will fall into place without much work on your end of the process, other than the time you spend creating top-notch content and getting it in front of the publishers who are most likely to publish your articles.

More importantly, you will find that by following this sage advice as also in the references compiled by Alexa, the benefits of ranking by Google are but shadows of the implied authoritative endorsements within your niches.
