What to look for in an Accountant?

Hey all

So in my near future endeavours I plan to be making a few thousand in a relatively short time.

Unfortunately I heard one too many horror stories regarding Paypal killing the accounts after a successful pay day so... I want to avoid it.

Which essentially means setting up a legitimate business, which I planned to do anyway.

Which means I'll need an accountant, because I have no clue on what to do now...

So I have about 7 to choose from... one seems perfect for what I need but they're based in a converted house with a rusty gate.

Another is at the bottom of my road, but the area I live in at the moment isn't exactly 'affluent' which makes me wonder why they aren't somewhere more high profile, considering their business...

So my question to you all:

What do you look for in an accountant?

or

What do you like about your current accountant?

    I would suggest, if you are planning an internet career, you should find an accountant who convinces you he is knowledgeable and experienced with internet clients.

      Yeah I considered this... going in and saying "ok look... this is what I do, this is what I need... why should I hire you?"

      That kind of thing... but you make a very good point I'll have some phone calls to make

    I ran an offline business for years and my accountant worked from home. He didn't have flash offices or drive a Jag or anything.

    He was an ex taxman who really knew the loopholes etc.

    ( The guy you mention might live in a house with a rusty gate hanging off, but his villa in Florida will be in good condition )


    Ask around your local area, any mates at a golf club or anything could recommend one ?
