My Gmail Haked For The 2ND Time

Okay I don't understand what is going on here. I usually am SUPER uptight about my security, and always look twice when being asked to resubmit my password.

I don't think I've been careless to let anybody get my password. There must be another way this is happening.

Yesterday I received notice that my account was accessed from India. Afterwards I changed my password.

Today when I access my Gmail I notice that there are two Mailer Damon failures. I check my sent mail and see a link sent to someone names alabamalol1@yahoo.com from me.

I clicked the link and sure enough Threat Detected. I have now changed my password for a second time, but am getting concerned. Does anybody know what's going on, or has this happened to somebody?

Thanks

Youwsers looks like your Warrior Forum account got hacked too... someone double posted the same message... LOL

Okay, in all seriousness you either have a very easy password people are guessing or you have some kind of Trojan on your computer. Unless you click on links within your email and fill out the forms or log into the account.

Is your password weak? Change it to something with numbers, letters and other allowed characters.

You might also have a keylogger or some other virus tracking your keyboard to get login details. So download a virus scanner like MalawareBytes and/or Avast anti-virus

Alright, I might as well download them. It can't hurt.

There is no way I'm going to close my gmail. I have to much marketing out there directing those to contact me there. Lol.

Most likely a virus, either keylogger or RAT. Best thing to do is change your passwords on a different computer (might have lan spread), or on your phone/ipod (starbucks etc.) then try some virus scans. If worst comes to worst do a reformat but backup all your stuff and move it to a flash drive.

In the future don't click random links you just asked for a driveby/silent download.

Okay, well the password was somewhat easy, but still complicated enough that it's impossible to figure out. Also maybe about a month ago I received an email from a person that I know. Must have been the 10TH email that I got from this person. I never open em up, but decided to, and found a link. When I clicked on that link it said Threat Detected, so I am weary now about clicking and opening up those sites.

As far as spyware I have AVG Anti Virus, and it runs scans everyday at 12 noon.

I strongly suggest you get the free versions of both MalawareBytes and Avast and do a full computer scan. Just do it before they get other info and leave you with no money in your paypal account or whatever you use. If it looks suspicious DONT open it!

Edit: and if possible get a new email account

I guarantee you that it's not "impossible to figure out".
Realize that serious hackers don't sit at their computer guessing passwords. They employ software programs that do all the dirty work.
Or more likely they deliver a virus or keylogger when someone clicks on a link.

Was it at least 12 characters long?
Did it contain a mix of letters, upper and lower case, numbers and punctuation and no dictionary words?
Password strength - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Use this if in doubt: Secure Password Generator
And don't use the same password for more than one account, to limit possible damage.

I would recommend scanning your computer with several different anti-virus and/or anti-malware programs. No single anti-virus program catches 100% of all virus/malware.

  • It's funny that you mention this because I tried logging into my Gmail account yesterday and my password was suddenly invalid. I had to reset it... I thought I was losing my mind, but there is no way I was typing in my password incorrectly.

This happened to my gmail a few times also. I started changing my password every 3 months or so and I haven't had any problems since then. Good Luck!

That might be your problem right there. You do realize a lot of hackers use software that can run thousands of passwords at your account per hour, right? It's not like they're sitting around guessing and typing their guesses in manually.

You need to use passwords that use a mixture of upper case, lower case, numbers and special characters. For example: 3f#f(&v@aHnPE8j^v

The longer the better. Believe me, if the pentagon and NASA can be hacked, your Gmail account is easy if you don't take password strength seriously.

Having a secure password is one thing, but having a secure computer is another. If
you cannot properly secure your computer, then its basically USELESS to even have
a hard, sophisticated password. Security starts with the basics... So, be sure to keep
your system up to date at ALL TIMES.

I say if you want to be completely confident you don't have a keylogger or virus then skip the virus scan. Go ahead and format and install a tea timer. Always copy/paste your pw's.

Email is the single easiest on-line item to hack. I am constantly surprised it doesn't happen more often, except there is no money in it, usually. The NSA reads EVERY email anyway. There is NO privacy or 'complete' security anywhere on the net. If someone is determined and talented enough, they WILL get in to ANY thing they want. Sometimes, you just have to realize, pay to play.

Email accounts are the most precious and private thing we have over internet, so yeah... I'll be panic whenever something goes wrong with mine.
I hope you'll get the problem solved well soon

Better use hard to crack passwords. A minimum of 8 characters is required composed of a combination alphanumeric characters. Make sure that the security question is set to one which only you know about.

    Check for trojans and malware.

And never save your password on your browser autofill option.

This is important because it is easily hack by trojans.
