Inspire Someone - Hillbilly celebrates 10th year in online marketing - You Can Do This!
I ran across a note that reminded me that 2009 marks my 10th year marketing online. It's hard to believe that it's been 10 years since All Advantage started up and I fell ass backwards into online marketing. Some of you other old timers remember it I'm sure.
This is my quick story and I hope it inspires some people who may be struggling.
I happened across the all advantage program by my wife's 13 year old cousin back in 1999. He said he collected 30 bucks from them by using their toolbar and referring others to the program.
This intrigued me and I gave it a shot. I made a few dollars from them but the big part was it excited me and got me to thinking hey I can make some extra cash from this internet thing.
Then it happened. I clicked on a link that said, Webmasters Make Money. I ended up finding Commission Junction and promoting a product called Netsetter which paid $5 per lead for a free signup that helped speedup downloads on the internet.
This was before the huge surge to broadband and most folks had dialup which was always too slow. I build a very archaic presell page without even really knowing the genius behind a presell page or even how to add the html link to the page.
I luckily figured out how to add a link from CJ to my free hosting page and started leaving comments on guestbooks and such.
My first month in CJ I earned about $8, the second month about $80 and I remember being very excited. Thinking what if I could build 100 more of these sites? The next month I made $800 from my 1 page website on a free hosting site and continued this level with small increments for quite some time.
These days we have a full staff who handle the mundane tasks of the business and i work from home with my wife and 2 kids. I won't mention the company name or product names but they have become rather well known. The freedom to create a business that lets us stay home with the kids and always be here when they get home from school is nothing short of miraculous. I'm very thankful for IM and the level of success it has brought me.
I am going to try to give back this year in ways that I have never done before. By showing people step by step how to secure their financial freedom.
Simply finding something that solves a problem and putting it in front of people who have that problem will make you money. Finding unique ways to get in front of eyeballs is one of the magical secrets.
If you are struggling to earn online I want you to know that you can do this. I taught myself everything from copy and paste to dreamweaver and ppc.
You don't need to buy every course that comes out to get ahead just take some action, learn from it and improve. If a hillbilly like me can be successful marketing online so can you!
Most people never take any action. They never get started so there is zero chance of them having success.
Don't sell yourself short when family and friends tell you that you can't do this etc. I guarantee you will be surprised at what you can do when you put your mind to it. Many people laughed at me when I started on my first site but they are still where they were back then.
