The best e-commerce platform?

Hi

As a new internet marketer, I am looking into the market now to get an idea of scripts out there which can be used to manage an online business in all its aspects; that would be ideal scenario. I am not sure if such a scripts exist.

Any suggestion / help / advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

    Hi Alba,

I personally use and recommend JVManager - but you need to give a little more information.

    * Do you need affiliate tracking?
    * What is your business model - membership, downloadable product, physical products?
    * Are you looking for a script to host on your own server or a hosted account?

    Etc.,

More than happy to discuss your requirements.

You can contact me in any of the ways listed in my profile.

      Hi

As mentioned above, it depends on what your needs are

      Personally i havn't tried JVManager, so i can't comment

For full blown e-commerce sites, Magento seems to be the most popular at the moment, but has a high learning curve.

For a more simpler, easy to use and user friendly alternative, i would recommend Prestashop. The latest version even has CMS so you can add information pages.

I have found such a script which included shopping cart, autoresponder etc. etc. and it had about 8 different pieces of software unified into one single system, but don't remember the name of it. It does cost about $20 a month to use and is owned by a warrior.

Otherwise, I can personally endorse JVM1 and Brian's services which are second to none!

    Thanks everybody for your suggestions.

I am a PC techie and I know my way around; I need something that is robust, to install in my server, but at the same time to have some kind of support from the provider.

My main business model will be a video membership site. As I mentioned I am looking for a script that handles and manages all of the details of my business. With the above being said, my next questions are: is JVManager able to handle all the above? Does it support CMS? How about autoresponders? If not, is there something out there that is capable to do all of this?

    Your advices are greatly appreciated.

    Thanks

      Hi Alba,

To handle what you describe above, I personally use a combination of JVManager 2 Fantasos and ContePass (which is JVM-2 compatible).

With a plugin for JVManager (Follow-Up Manager), you would have everything you describe above and a whole lot more.

Both are currently under constant development and are supported through forum, help desk and (in my case) through third party affiliates.

I use Fantasos as my FULL platform for digital and physical delivery of products, affiliate management, JV management, online payment processing, membership area protection in conjunction with ContePass (although Fantasos can do this - I use ContePass for CMS).

The reasons for me choosing these scripts are many but top of the list is flexibility and centralization of all my domains for back office functions (Fantasos) and flexibility and centralization of all of my front office functions (ContePass).

      Brian

P.S. - Justin thanks for the recommendation - much appreciated :-)

Infusionsoft.com & 1shoppingcart.com - high price system, very good and I'm considering to get one of them in the future. handle product delivery, affiliate management, product delivery, payment gateway intergration(support many), and etc.

ebizac.com - budget and affordable system. I used this at the moment. handle product delivery, affiliate management, product delivery, payment gateway intergration(only clickbank, paypal and 2checkout), and etc.

fantasos.com(JV Manager2) - heard of it. don't know too much about it. go fantasos.com/demo.html? for demo.

Magento has been a real PITA for me. I am really hoping to go with it soon, but so far has been too limiting. Magento is a shopping cart system, but it is open source and it looks promising for the future with expansions. However this does not sound like something you are looking for.

Joomla is where I am headed for the most part and I think Drupal (spelling?) is a similar content management system that is highly used and understood by many designers. It seems to be very powerful and there are a lot of plug-ins available so it may be worth looking into it so see if you can get all the parts you need.

Joomla does have drawbacks I wish I could get around (such as learning curve & some design limitations) but it's benefits seem to be outweighing it's drawbacks.

Support for any of these (Magento or Joomla) I found to be extremely poor other than by the designers using these systems.

    A few things to consider:

How many sales do you expect
    Do you require stock control
    Do you have consignment stock
    Are you selling Affiliate Stock
Do you need Accounting Software Interface
Are you going to need affiliate tracking
    - what level of tracking
Do you need to track Memberships
    Are you offering Downloadable Products
How are you going to update you Stock Items
How often do you change your offers
Are you going to need Predetermined Specials (from date 1 to Date 2)
Do you need a start date for the product to allow preloading of items
Do you need a Postage Handling System
    - Weight
    - Size
Do you require Tax Handling (different States, Countries)
How are you going to handle payments
    - Payment Gateways
    - Account Customers

These are a few things to consider before jumping in with an e-commerce solution.

Here's an excerpt from a post I made in a similarly-related thread yesterday:

    = = = = = = =

After 4 years of searching for a HOSTED one-stop-managed e-commerce-to-affiliate tracking system (even scrapping a $3K system to move into web 2.0 technology that wins hands-down), we moved everything over to Nanacast to run our promotions and campaigns.

We can run all types of pricing structures (from a firesale, to a dimesale, to a trial offer and payment plan pricing system and more), issue customized coupon codes to our community, and accept all forms of payment (PayPal, AmEx, Discover, Visa/MC).

Yet, this is just for starters...so, so much more to say about what is behind such a seemingly infant platform...yet, Josh knows his stuff when it comes to where the shortcomings of other "scripts" and "systems" lie ( think of Nanacast combining the best features and enhancements of 1shopping cart, Butterfly Marketing, aMember, Fantasos, etc. )

Albasoft, it sounds like your site is better suited to a sales+affiliate management script rather than magento which is an ecommerce platform for physical products.

I've recently been introduced to RapidActionProfits.com which also has an add-on module (purchased seperatedly) for membership sites and another module for recurring billing via paypal:-
RAP modules - not aff link

I havn't tried it yet but it's received rave reviews and Frank Bruno also has recommended it to me. RAP plus the two add-on modules is less than $300 whereas JV2 Fantasos is $2997 or £27+ a month.

      Hi AlbaSoft

I used to be member of a team that was testing a membership sites script (beta tester); for obvious reasons I cannot mention the name of the script or the owner. It was claimed that the script was great, with a bright future and that it was going to dominate the market it was meant for. It really was a good script, albeit the fact that had a long learning curve and not very user friendly. Customer Service (remember I was a beta tester) was not very reliable, the service wasn't promt and in some cases all they did was giving some general advices (remember: I was dealing with coders for technical issues). But the main deciding factor that made me get away from that team and script (even though beta testers were given a huge discount for the script) was the fact that the owner did not use the script for his own membership site (which he launched after the script was created, advertised and being sold).

What I just described is not a fiction. I told you this short story to advice you that you consider this fact as an additional factor in the list, given by dail, of other factors you need to consider in you decision.

As for myself, I am settled with Fantasos (second generation of JVManager) and I do not think I am going to move away from it.

I fully support what Brian said in his second post and this is exactly what I am doing right now: very soon I will launch my site which will be fully managed by Fantasos and as a component of this site will be a membership site based on ContePass which is connected to Fantasos.
(A note on the side: Brian's expertise is top notch service)

Whichever script you chose, just keep in mind an advice: treat your business like a long lasting entity, something that will take care of you and your family for the years to come; in order to have this entity you will need to have a good plan, based on a rock-solid business model that did not fail the test of time.

On the price tag side, remember: You get what you paid for.

      That's my 2 cents,

      Hope it helps

    HI Alba

I think you need to define more exactly what you want, when you want it in your time line and what is each points value within each other.

Then you need to define what you are willing to pay for each piont.

You can quite happily run a internet business just on Clickbank, or Paypal and Outlook. I have had clients do that for quite some time before their pain has driven them to look at the next level. At least by doing this they know the product/service works and can reall establish what the above truely is.

At that stage should be when you want to jump to a sytem that will take you over the next 3-5 years of growth.

Personally I am a hugh fan of Infusionsoft. But there is a price in License and Training. I would say until you have some pain in supporting your exsiting sales I would look to get simple bits of specialist software to do what you need. Once the model is proven then look again at what is on the market.

    Hope this helps.

Go watch the new video I put up on http://nanacast.com

I explain how it can be used to manage an online business in all aspects.

There are very few solutions out there that can and do manage "all" aspects of a business. Most solutions require you to jimmy rig a bunch of scripts and hire programmers to try and hack it all together and force it to do what you want.

Nanacast is truly one of the few that does. Best of all you can integrated it into any business model without installing a single script because it is an "all in one" solution.

It can handle every form of publishing you can imagine from physical on demand automation in more ways than any other solution to podcasting and membership sites.

Of course I am biased... but if I thought there was a better solution out there I would use it because I am also a publisher and use my own platform just like many others do to automate their business.

We market it under a few different labels in various markets.

Tomorrow I meet with a client who will be using our platform (on another white label) to manage his CPA offers. He was CEO of a startup that did over 200 million a year in the health niche.

Here are just a hand full of examples of sites using our platform for various aspects of their publishing, sales funnel, client, and affiliate management:

Here is what I would say about different platforms, especially considering them from SEO point of view. Magento is not the best option for small sites and those who just starts the ecocmmerce business and his little knowledge on how to operate ecommerce platform. In this case, one of the best options would be Shopify, as they are growing fast and it is super-easy to build a store there. However, if you want to implement some big changes, or have some SEO issue where there is no plug-in for that, you will have to dive into the code which is not easy to do on Shopify. Volusion is losing stores right now, so it is not the best option. BigCommerce is not bad at all, because they have terrific knowledge bas, quite easy to operate and you don't need add-ons to solve many of SEO issues, They are already solved there) I attach the checklist here http://promo.do/WgZf and this is the post where we talk about migration tips and provide links to the presentation listing all the pros and cons of different platforms.
