Quitting my Day Job for IM [need Advice]

Asking people to PM you with their aff. link is never a good idea. I think soon you'll be bombard with a lot of PMs. Anyhow, before quitting your job make sure that you'll be able to make atleast the equal amount to your salary by utilizing your time in internet marketing which you are spending on your job right now! I've seen many people being reluctant after leaving their jobs due to the insecurity which is always there in the online businesses.

The "Must Have" IM tools are (which I am using currenlty):

If you quit your job in the hopes of making a stable income online, you will be in trouble. Work your way to a full-time income online, THEN quit your job.

Yes it does sound easy said than done.

But once you start learning SEO and online marketing, sales will come. I would suggest you to learn copywriting as well, since a persuasive message is necessary to get sales.

There was something about this post that concerned me. The post started off mentioning your plan to quit your job to market on-line full-time, wanting to "do it right," and I expected that you would be looking for advise in that regard. Instead, you wanted to know what software you should buy.

I don't know where you are financially. I do not know where you are at with your income. I do know this, though...

Before I would quit a paying job that I relied upon to pay the bills, I would make damn sure that my on-line business was ready to cover my monthly expenses. I would also want to see money in the back, the credit cards paid off, and my systems in place and working before tendering my resignation.

What concerned me was that while I agree with your desire to automate aspects of the business, you really want those sorts of things sorted out before making a decision that you may well not be able to reverse later on. The economy is horrible. A lot of people who want jobs don't have them. Chances are that your current employer will have many applicants eager to fill your position the moment you leave.

I guess what I'm saying here is I know what it feels like to work a job you don't like, but it still beats being broke. The automated software is fine, but it doesn't make a business. Just make sure you've got your business where you need it to be to support your current lifestyle before you quitting.

I think you should quit your day job well before you start with IM. This way you will be able to start stress free and focus solely on counting the dollars as they roll in, which can be a huge task.
All sarcasm aside, assuming you are finacially set to retire, prepare to learn, learn, and then relearn what you thought would work.

Eyetrap has a good goal to shoot for. I was at about 60% of full time income before I made the leap. Also, be sure to not burn any bridges with your employer. Make sure you leave on good terms so at the very least you will have a reference from them in case you need to find a more "traditional" office job.

As for tools, I started with tools that are one time fees only to keep my monthly expenses down. Market Samurai, Article Demon, Bookmark Demon, Scrapebox. After you have the income to afford it, you can buy the bigger guns like SENuke X and blog networks. Don't feel like these are must have tools to make the leap. It's like doing math by hand on paper versus using a calculator. They don't magically make you better at SEO, they just make you more efficient.

Do consider seriously before you burn the bridges (job) behind you. I fully understand that you are at the cross road now, don't know what to do. But takecare of your basics needs first irregardless of what you do.
Some may agree with me some not, it all depends on individuals.

For me, i invested in some companies that give out dividends, i am using these money to sustain my living and work on IM.

So what i suggest to you is try to find some passive income to support you first, when you feel that it is sufficient, then move on, else hold on to your next plan.
(Warning : IM need time to built up your income, so do be careful)

Read up books to see what are those Passive Income you can get.

E.g Real Estate investment, paper assest, etc.

Yasir is right, you should build your online business and get it to start making money, then quit your job, not the other way around. This simple piece of advice will save you a lot of trouble.

YOU SHOULD HAVE BACKUP INCOME.
IM can have it's Ups and Downs down the road.

In the Old Days of Online Marketing
It was so easy to quit my day job.
eBay was much friendlier
and so was list building. (Less lists to choose from I assume).
Although other avenues have opened up
some months seem to swing like a pendulum.

Still I could never go back to a so called "Real Job.
It's an addiction for sure.

I have no advice! I can't post I guess, and was hoping you could point me in the direction of a good teacher or coach as I would love to see some money come in online. Not a penny in one year. I thought since you were considering leaving your job you would have some good advice.

Make sure you have cash to fall back on first before ditching you job.

Don't quit your job immediately remember entering in a world of IM is not an assurance that you will earn easily, there's a lot of people fail on that field hold on to your job so far then start IM as a sideline then if you realize that your income in IM is enough to level your present income then thats the right time to go full time with IM.

I suggest continue working until your IM income equal your daily job..

Then save up to 3 months of income and quit your job.

I agree with what everyone else is saying about quitting.

You really do need to make sure you are making livable income before you quite your day job.

If it's an option, i would definitely go part time first before completely jumping off the job.

But IM moves in cycles, like another person before me said, there's some things that burn bright but burn out quickly, if you are relying on this type of strategy to bring you reliable income you are wrong.

You are not quitting a day job, you are about to embark on one of the hardest jobs, don't be fooled, it can be long hours and IT IS hard work.

Things change and you got to be at the top of your game! IM is relentless!

Make sure that you earn a steady income at least 10-12 months with IM. Believe me i still earn 2-3 times amount of Day job with IM. But I don't like to quit from my professional job.

Pick a method to get (quality) traffic and work on it until you master it. Build a list from your traffic. Always grow your list

Some people would suggest that you reach a certain level of success in IM first before you quit your job. Then again quitting your job before having a stable income from IM would really force push you to success as you do not have a place to fallback to and you will not be able to make excuses and choose the easy path of quitting IM. A "do or die" situation. Most of the people i know who have attained some sort of success in IM were in the latter situation.
It's up to you to choose which works best for you. I'm simply just sharing here

I quit my job when my IM income is 1.5 times my job income.

Now my IM income is 3 times my job income :-)

I hope that you are listening to what everyone has said. Dont quit your day job until your IM income at least is equal to your salary or at the very least equal to your monthly expenses.

Try to improve your current IM activities and expand them.

I work and do IM at night + use a va. I wont stop my day job until I reach at least double my day job salary on a stable month to month basis.

If you don't have a secured plan on your next job then better not quit. If this kind of marketing don't work out for you then it won't really work. So for now, you have to really think about what do you want to achieve and make that as your foundation on deciding where you should go.

As mentioned above... to quit a day job to go full time can be risky. Its not something I have been brave enough to do yet, but I do have a few free tips:

• As already mentioned, try to build your IM income to a good steady reliable income before you quit. I would say aim for a steady average of 70% of your current salary. You can account for the other 30% by econimising and small sacrifices. (a process thats good for the soul and makes your leap to self employed more satisfying).
• If you can do so, graduate your switch. Maybe go part time at your current job to provide you extra time to invest in your IM. Most UK employers offer flexible working terms these days.
• Obtain a good balance. If you have a family, dont loose sight of the time you owe to them. Nothing is worse than a spouse/mum/dad who always says "In a minute, I'm busy". Nothing is more important than our loved ones.

Good luck with your new adventure. Although I'm new to IM, I'm not new to pushing the limits and stepping out into the Unknown. It does makes sense to wait to build up your income before you leave, but there is the old saying "necessity is the mother of all invention." What's your life like? If you've got dependents, yeah, play it safe and go the slow and steady route. If you're on your own and relatively unattached, screw it! Get some cash in your pocket and jump ship. You won't know what'll happen, but you can be sure you'll appreciate life more. Some of my most intense moments were when I had empty pockets...wide open and ready for anything, everything.
