Can you sell / transfer a domain if it has just expired

Hi Guys

I just flipped a site on flippa (sold today), but my domain actually expired a couple of days ago. Can I still transfer it over so they pay for the domain, or do I have to register it for another year, and then stransfer it?

Thanks
Phil

Hi, I think the last option... because you sell the site with its domain... and you can not let the buyer pay for the domain again...

    Phil, is the domain expired?
There is a grace period where I believe that you can still renew it.

Here is a Domain Life cycle chart.

    Good to see you again.

    Hope that helps,

    Hey Michael

Yeah, how are you doing mate? The domain is only a couple days expired, so yeah, there is still a grace period before it drops. I'm just not sure if that gives me the right to hand it over to somebody else? When I'm back in doors, I might give ol' Godaddy a call.

    Thanks for your help

Usually you can not transfer after the domain has expired and with most registrars they will charge you extra to get the domain back if it has expired. I would call GoDaddy personally and explain the problem and if you get the right person they might look past this for you. They have helped me out on a few occasions. Worst case you might have to cough up some extra cash to get the domain back and then transfer. Hopefully it was a decent sale for you and your profits will cover it.

Expired domains cannot be transferred, and you may not be in a position to transfer it, when you've renewed it.

New domains usually need 60 days before a transfer can be made.

You should be able to push the domain to a new user Phil, just ask the buyer to set up a free Godaddy account, and push the domain, using the account change tab, while in the account manager.

Like the above poster said you cannot transfer the expired domain. You also must wait 60 days no matter what. Best thing you can do is go ahead and call Godaddy and talk to them
