Default Is Twitter Safe?, Hackers Broke Into Barack Obama's Account

I was considering signing up with twitter to make some connections and moolah; but the cnn story below gives me pause after hackers broke in to the twitter accounts of Barack Obama, Britney Spears and even a CNN reporter's account.

Twitter accounts of Obama, Britney Spears hacked - CNN.com

I keep hearing twitter this and twitter that, it seems to be all over the place and I don't want to be left behind as a vehicle for further IM,

I hope they (twitter) are able to nip this in the bud as soon as possible.

I don't believe this was a case of "hacking," but of "phishing."

However, the title of the thread does tie in nicely with your siggy.

It was hacking. 33 accounts were hacked. Twitter has plugged the hole for now.

The phishing was a separate occurrence.

I see. Strange how they happened at the same time of the phishing incidents.

Blogs get hacked, websites get hacked, etc. No site is 100% hack-proof. I don't think that Twitter is any more or less vulnerable than anyone else and, with Twitter getting more and more attention, it's only natural that hackers start targeting as they no doubt do with any other site. I have websites that are very low traffic, very little content and there are regular attempts to get into them.

Just be careful is all. Don't use the same password on more than one account. Too many people do that, so if hackers get their password from one place, they can frequently get into other accounts that are accessed using the same password.

Oh please.

Anything can be broken into. And it's really not that hard once you understand what the weakest link in the security chain is.

It's people. If you can trick people into handing over the necessary info, you can access anything.

Obama is Twittering???

I really wonder if it's really him or an assistant doing it FOR him. Oh, he might twitter himself once in a while, but I doubt he does it all himself. He's about to get sworn in later this month, has a TON of things to do, places to be and people to meet. He has teams (and reams) of people to do every little thing for him.

Color me skeptical, but I have a hard time believing Twitter is a priority for him and that every Obama tweet really IS Obama. (If it is, I'm scared.)

I think they determined they were not related. Twitter apparently tracked the hacking to an individual, while the phishing seems to have come from overseas.

Not since election day. No tweets at all, not counting the tweets that were sent out by the hacker.

And, yes, it was most likely campaign staff doing the tweeting.
