Demand Media Studio: Best Paying Article Site or Just Hype?

Anyone tried submitting articles or video to Demand Media Studios. Do they really pay better than any other article submission site or is it just hype?

Unless they've changed things, you can only write articles for their approved titles (so no submitting your own stuff). You can get $10-$15 per article, but their editors are notoriously picky. You may have to make revisions a couple of times before your article is accepted - and there's no guarantee that you'll get it accepted in the end. I did some writing for them awhile back, but to me, the time it took to deal with their pickiness wasn't worth the money.

Thanks for the inside tips - and sharing your experiences. They're doing some heavy marketing now and I just wondered if anyone has done business with them?

I keep them as a fallback source of cash flow because they pay twice a week. Their most common stuff is $15 per article but the stuff I've been doing for the last 6 months or so is at $25. I can deal with the pickiness but the schizophrenia drives me nuts. One editor wants things one way and the next wants it the opposite despite what the guidelines might say.

The research and references required, not to mention their extensive blacklist of good references, makes it really time consuming. Then you have to enter your article into their web forms piece by piece. Grrr.

I got frustrated enough to start taking on clients again.

I written for demand studios and it was great that they paid out twice a week but the thing that I could not stand was the difference between editors. Some of them accepted my articles right away and other made me rewrite an article several times. In the end they are really too time consuming to writes articles for.

I've written for them occasionally, the pay was adequate but nothing special, but the process they have you go through to submit your articles was on the tedious side.

I am approved to write for them but rarely have. The standard pay is $15/article, which sounds decent, but it often ends up not being worth it at all. Like others have said, the editors are notoriously picky, and you never get the same ones. One editor will tell you to write a thing one way, so you do that and then the next editor will tell you it is wrong. Because of this you can end up spending a lot of time on just one article.

They also have extensive style guides. I'm sure those who write regularly for them have got the system down, but I found myself reading through countless pages of guidelines just to make sure things were formatted correctly. This was really time consuming.

Another thing is the title selection is usually very poor, and many of the titles don't even make sense. I do all kinds of research and writing, but I usually am unable to find anything writable in their queue.

So in short, my $.02 - its not worth it
