Question About Hubpages

I got an email saying that hubpages was giving me a subdomain. What does that mean for SEO purposes? Is that good or bad?

Sounds bad to me, you won't benefit as much from their domain trust.

I have some good hubs on Hubpages also, and I keep it without change to sub domain. If you had about 100 hubs, you can change to sub domain, SE will give you some boost of traffic. The rest for maintain these position you need to do by yourself.

Richard, that's what I was thinking. Well I only really used hubpages for the backlinks, anyway so no harm no foul, there. I wonder if they have done this in response to the whole panda thing.

If you don't do it on your own, they are forcing you to go to subdomain. They are doing this to combat the panda issue which killed their revenues. By doing this, they just become the hosts essentially and each sub can be evaluated separately by Google.

That's a new change to their organization, one would think in response to the Panda search rank reduction perhaps similar content in separate subdomains won't be penalized so much.

It does give you a chance to feature the author name in the URL, but as previously suggested you might not receive as much SEO benefit from being part of hubpages.

Do bear in mind subdomains are a common practice in free hosting, like Bloggher.
