I don't build blogger sites myself but now I wanted to to start an article marketing campaign (writing quality articles) + blogging to generate some 'quick cash' (like withing two weeks). So I'm going to create a new blogspot blog in the IM niche becasue I heard a lot of times that blogspot blogs tend to rank faster and better than 'self controlled' WordPress sties. And to minimize risk, I'm going to purchase a domain name for that blog. But I was wondering, does having a domain name affect the ranking power of the blogger blog or not?

If so I'll go with a self-hosted blog. =)

Thanks!

Hi Clio, Nice idea. Blogspot is now a combination of social media and web 2.0. So asking for the domain name affect the ranking power of the blogger blog will NOT affect the ranking. I know blogger is connected to google so by that means blogger is near to heart of google. Then this speaks that blogger is really have faster rank than WP...

    Thanks

That might last until the first competitor who sees it happens to "flag" it.

Anyone imagining that it might be sensible to try to use a Blogger blog as "their own site" may be pretty interested in reading this informative thread.

And anyone who actually reads it, I imagine, is highly likely to change their mind, and thereby reduce the regular occurrence of all the threads like this one.

Please excuse the observation that I wouldn't dream of doing what you're planning to do. But I wish you good luck, whatever you decide.

Hey Alexa, I understand this but I'm building that site using my own domain name. So if I get banned or anything, I won't lose the site.

I appreciate that, but surely it'll still be a mega-inconvenience?! Why not just use self-hosted Wordpress from the start, and not have the constantly ongoing worry?

Blogger/Blogspot can be a great asset for getting pages and links indexed by Google very quickly. They can also be useful when applying for Adsense.

There are 10's of millions of blogs hosted on both, so I wouldn't take anecdotal evidence as the only reason not to use either.

On the other hand, you should minimize your risk and not put a lot of time and effort into them either. But there's nothing wrong with adding a couple of your articles to Blogger/Blogspot, using contextual links in them to get a little link juice and indexing benefits.

With web hosting literally costing just under $5 a month depending on who you go with, its hard to understand why you would use a free blogger blog--especially if you already own the domain name.

Blogger is attractive, yes. I get drawn to it at least four times a year. I'll go check up on a blog that's been sitting there doing really nothing for at least 3 years and I think, "well if this didn't get nuked, what else could I get away with!"

And then it hits me that its probably not been nuked because a whopping five people (probably all me) have look at the page in the last twelve months.

What can go wrong, will go wrong eventually. It would royally suck for you to put a lot of hard work into a site and then have an Editor bring the banhammer down on you.

Like I said Blogger can be attractive because there are NO upfront costs. Hell, your post has caused me to give things another look--but its the fact that I don't have any control over my site's fate that keeps pulling me out of that fantasy.

If you have the domain name already, you might as well just self-host.

The main idea of a free blog is that you need no domain expense
    Same as wordpress.com

Was not even aware that you could associate a domain name
with a blogger/blogspot blog - and I dont see how that lowers
risk of any kind even if you could.

If you want to spend money -

But a domain and hosting account
    Make nice sales pages there
Have a Blogger/Blogspot AND a Wordpress to make links/announcements/pings for your offers.

I've used both blogspot and a self hosted wordpress site. Like you I believed in the hype that blogger blogs rank faster and higher because blogger is owned by google.

From experience I had faster and better rankings with the wordpress blog than I ever achieved with blogspot.

Have to agree with this. I have been flagged a few times and it is no fun when some hard work that is not spam gets deleted. Since I have always been self hosted.

Ranks just as well as WP.

Agree again ranks better is many cases you have more flexibility and not at the mercy of being flagged.

I guess for the OP it all depends on the risk you want to associate with your material.

With self hosting I sleep much better.

Alright but have anyone found blogspot blogs to rank better or faster than new self-hosted sties? If there's no ranking benefit associated with blogspots, I'll just self-host; there's no point in me wasting my time.
