40% Optin Conversion Rate

8 replies
Hey Guys,

I've just set up a new landing page that is converting at 40-43% for first name and email address optins..

Most of my traffic is coming from email's so it's luke warm traffic..

What are you thoughts on a conversion rate like this in the HEALTH niche?

    Not bad, but it could probably be improved. If you haven't already, start split testing all the elements on your page.

    Well one thing everyone has in common is a physical body, and we all need medical help sooner or later, so I'm not too surprised at your conversion rates. Health niches have always done well. When you say coming from emails, do you mean just general bulk emails, or a segmented section of your personal email list? It might explain if its people who already know you.

    Thats a good rate. I would just keep testing different landing pages and trying different types of advertising to see what all works best.

    After that opt in, what are you doing with the leads? Do they convert to a physical product?

  • @RichardF - yeah I'm running multivariate split tests at the moment, just wanted to see if I was hitting into the right kind of figures to start with…

    @trevor75 - the lists aren't mine, they are affiliate partners promoting the site for me.. so 3rd party recommendations really…

    @JayInOrlando - currently they are pushed to a refer a friend page, I'm seeing that about 50% of the people that opt in are sharing on FB, Twitter of giving me names of their friends.

    There are always a number of factors involved in those conversion rates:
    • Source of traffic;
    • Copy on landing page;
    • Incentive for subscribing;
    • Volume of traffic.

    When you exhaust one source of traffic, your conversion rates could go up or down, according to the quality of your new source of traffic.

    If you want to improve your conversion rates, improve on any of the four items listed above.

    But be careful not to get complacent as to "why" you are getting as good of conversion as you are.

    And never jump to making drastic changes when you see a major drop in conversion, without first taking into all of the factors involved in your conversion.

    If you recently changed your source of traffic and saw conversion rates go down, don't make the mistake of assuming that you need to change your landing page.

  • @tpw - quality advice.. I've only just started to increase my traffic volume, increasing my traffic volume has increased my conversion by about 20% which i found interesting..

    I'm currently really only pushing 2 major traffic sources:

    - Email
    - PPC (using a boutique provider)

    On average i'm pulling 200 leads a day, from what i've ready on that volume that conversion rate is fairly good.. but would like to get it above 50% in the near future..

    Wow, when I saw 40% I thought that's amazingly good, but perhaps that's because I'm new to the whole list thing. I'd like to see some of these high converting opt in pages you're talking about, so I can try to do similar.
