I've had a site with podcast & blog for 2 years now: Healthy Mind – Fit Body: Fitness & Weight Loss Psychology for Optimal Nutrition and Proven Results
We're now averaging about 100 visitors/day.

We sell and ebook/audiobook package on the site for $37 and average only about 12 sales/month.

Opt-ins are about 3 per day. Want to get that to 10 for every 100 visitors.

I think the autoresponder is decent. So, we need a better opt-in rate. Since it's a blog, I wanted to set it up as a squeeze page, but apparently that is difficult because we have a podcast feed, and it might screw that up.

Any suggestions on how to improve opt-in rate? We have a lightbox that comes on in 8 seconds, and opt-in boxes everywhere.

Thanks!
Kevin

Maybe a full page pop-under that displays an opt-in competition to win something related to your niche?

I found competitions for actual physical products work better than your traditional free info opt-in.

Great idea! I used to do that on another site and it worked pretty well. Thanks!

When I visited your site my eyes were not drawn to the signup form and the popup just annoyed me (but that's just me).

I think you should test a button on your website that when people click on it, leads them to a dedicated page for your optin. (Squeeze page)

I listened to some of your podcast and glad to hear you mentioned about signing up but don't be afraid to repeat that because it kind of caught me off guard and I didn't catch all of what you said. All I caught were the words "your name and email address" so don't be afraid to mention it twice in a row.

so some things for you to think about:

    1. Construct a dedicated optin page (It's also easier to test as well) Replace the optin form on your blog with a banner or button that attracts attention to it. If you go to my blog (Sig file lower right) you will see the kind of button I am talking about.

    2. Work on your copy. My optin page is nothing special, I threw it up in about 2 minutes but I am always taking a look at my numbers and changing it a little at a time to improve it. I use Google Analytics to see my results.

    3. Mention your newsletter, free gift or whatever in your podcast twice in a row so people won't miss it because right now you say it like it's a bad thing and want to hurry and get past that part.

You seem to me like a genuine person who really cares about his listeners and mentioning the signup form makes you feel like you are pushing something onto your listeners... am I right?

If I am, think about this... Think about what a disservice you are doing to your listeners by not mentioning your signup page. They are interested enough to listen to what you have to say and send you questions so help them out by giving them the chance to have more of your stuff. Did I say - mention about your newsletter more than once?

Try those things and measure the results.

      Thanks for all the insight!

We actually do have an opt-in page that we mention several times on our podcasts. The 3 Pillars Of Achieving Your Perfect Weight Using the Mind-Body Connection
We have the announcer's voice come on at the beginning, we mention it during the podcast, then he says it again at the end...I think we push it pretty hard on the podcast.

Do you think we should test a banner to the squeeze page instead of the opt-in form we currently have?

One change I am making is not advertising the book so much and instead highlight opting in.

      Cheers,
      Kevin

        Hi Kevin,

That's perfect about pushing your optin during your shows. I only listened to the first few minutes of it to see if you had mentioned it.

Yes you should test out something that stands out more than what you have their currently for your optin form.

You see, when an optin form is on a blog you have things around it that compete for attention. Your blog posts, the different links, etc.

But a button much like I have on my blog gets immediate attention. It attracts the eyes. And it's pretty obvious what I want you to do from that image.

Plus, all of my outside advertising goes straight to my squeeze page.

Your opt in offer only talks about features i.e. 'ideal weight'

You need to scream and shout about the benefits of hitting your perfect weight.

Nobody is interested in features. Make the bullets in your pop up
          BENEFITS...not features.

get a benefit laden headline on the opt in section and I'm sure you'll see the increase you're looking for.
