What do all the Amazon Affiliates Do Now?

When Amazon recently closed down the affiliates from CA as a revolt for the sales tax, I was just gearing up to get real involved with this marketing.

Amazon really is the best for physical products. What have you guys found to be good networks?

Hi, bloomingrose - There are some suggestions for CA affiliates here: http://www.warriorforum.com/main-int...azon-what.html

That thread also had some other ideas that you might find helpful. You have lots of options still for physical products and even the opportunity to still market Amazon products depending on how you approach setting up your business.

Also, might want to read this thread and sign the petition to help Amazon fight the nexus tax change in CA: http://www.warriorforum.com/main-int...azon-read.html

The next closest thing to Amazon would be eBay.

Sign up at for Comission Junction at CJ - Your Performance Marketing Partner

Bigger then ClickBank and mostly "physical products."

Thanks so much to all the great replies. I had been away from this post and it just filled up. I am going to check out all the sites listed, and I went to the other post that you offered Sojourn. Sebastian J - I am definitely going to check out the ebay partners - making 10 times the profits off Amazon sounds good. Amzon is big and anonymous, it is good to be in some of the smaller networks where you have more contact with people who might help you.

And so is CJ and ShareASale. Even PepperJam can be good for you if you prove you can drive sales--and then a rep will contact you directly.

That said, physical products are where its at PERIOD. I wouldn't give up my physical product niches for anything.

You're going to fail. If you're afraid of failure then you do not belong in the Internet Marketing Business. Period.

Another excellent alternative is Walmart (via Linkshare).

    Better commissions, live time cookies.

One more approach you might try...

You can still use Amazon for research. When you find a product you want to promote simply do a Google search for that product and go to the home page for the company that makes it. Scroll to the bottom of the page and see if they have an affiliate program, many of them do and in some cases the payout is higher than Amazon. You do lose out a little on name recognition as Amazon is widely known but it is an alternative woth looking into.

Look into Ebay Partner Network, that's making me the most money - about 10 times the money I make using Amazon associates.

You should probably also take a look at Commission Junction and LinkShare.

You do know that even if you're banned in the USA, you can STILL promote amazon.ca, amazon.co.uk, amazon.it, amazon.de?

They don't care what state you live in to promote Amazon in other countries.

This is totally incorrect. If you live in a banned nexus state, you will not be allowed to become an Amazon affiliate period. You may consider the option of incorporating in a non-nexus state as many Amazon affiliates such as myself have done. Consult professional legal counsel on how to proceed, and ignore the "advice" you see in so many of these threads posted by those who really have no idea what they're talking about.

Hi myob, I have been IMing for about a year now and I currently have an EPN account which has been doing fine but I was just gearing up for Amazon when they fired all of us CA's. I tried changing my address using a "virtual mailbox" in another state and was told they probably won't ask for proof, well they did and I'm toast. I feel my only other option is an LLC. Could you give me a bit more insight on this matter and the best way of going about it.

        Thank you for your time,

Other than considering some of the alternative networks mentioned in this thread, you need to consult professional legal counsel for forming an LLC.

The California tax boys are on to the various highly imaginative schemes of Amazon affiliates, and if you don't get it right, they will be on you like a wild and hungry bear.

Unfortunately, you are among many others who have followed this very poor "advice" that has been so rampant here in the forum. This is a marketing forum, not a legal advisory.

Thanks myob for the reply. I would assume a tax attorney would be best in this situation wouldn't you? I am also considering picking not only a state that has the "cheapest" LLC, but also one that has no sales tax, ie Oregon. Those should be the last to fall.

Comission Junction, would be my suggestion but given the feedback here I'll now also be checking out the Ebay Partner Network so, there are def options out there.

Nothing beat amazon in 'cross selling'. You'll sell more things that you don't actually promote.
