No, absolutely you do not need to have hosting. You could purchase your domains using GoDaddy and simply redirect them in your control panel. No hosting is required. Hosting is for FILES only.

Right, you do need any hosting to be an affiliate.
If you want to cloak, use any short url redirection, like bit.ly, tinyurl etc

I dont think so. After using these such tools, the affiliate links will be exposed after that. Other good suggestion?

You get the same product with Namecheap that you do with Godaddy. The only difference is their sales pages and pricing. Godaddy flocks you with a ton of upsells and cross sells whenever you go through the checkout process. But you can get some neat free stuff if you are paying attention. They also tend to have better deals and sales than Namecheap.

Namecheap doesn't force you to click Next on 5 pages through the checkout process before you actually pay for something, which is kinda nice.

Why not just get cheap hosting? You can get a basic shared plan for a few bucks/month. It can be even cheaper if you just pay for a year up front.

Neither does GoDaddy if you're paying attention... it's pretty simple
to click the Go Straight To Checkout button...

GoDaddy's redirect also allows you to cloak the link.

This is perhaps the worst way to cloak affiliate links.

The best link-tracker/forwarder/url-shortener to use is really any one that you own and control yourself.

It's not so good to rely on the continued availability, goodwill, reliability and changeable terms of service of any third-party URL-shortening/tracking service. There were a few hundred Warriors here last year who would have told you the same (and in fact did) when all their Tinyurl links suddenly disappeared overnight!

Have a look at this recent post on Ben Metcalfe's blog: The .ly domain space to be considered unsafe | :Ben Metcalfe Blog.

Really, it's good to be in control of your own business and not dependent on unnecessary third-party services (in countries like Libya!) and their reliability and longevity.

Many people here use it, but that doesn't make it "good" ... nor "safe", unfortunately.

If you talk to a turkey who gets well fed every day and well looked after for 3 years plus, before being killed for Thanksgiving, he'll tell you on every day of his 999-day life that everything's absolutely fine, because that's his experience at that point. Try talking to him on the 1000th day of his "life". The problem with using services like the one you're asking about is that you can't tell what day of their life it is (and neither can they).

"Well, I've been using it for 998 days and I've never had a problem". :p

Whatever you're using bit.ly or tinyurl for, there are far better, far safer solutions readily available.

You can easily use a redirected $1 .info domain-name as your cloaking device. No hosting's needed for this.

No, you really don't need it if you only plan to redirect. In namcheap you have the option to redirect the domain to whatever url it is that you want. You can also do this from your hosting account if you have it, but why bother?!

My experience has shown that you need to host them. Then you can create a page where you enter some redirect code, and then redirect this page to your affiliate link.

If you want to know how to do this, I could list it out here.
