.....email marketing 101 - An intriguing subject line will improve your open rates!

You opened this one didn't you? []

Seriously though, I just spent some time going through my autoresponder series and looking at all my email subject lines to see if they could be improved. Ended up changing a few to make them more intriguing.

I'm sure the little time it took to do that will improve my email open rates and will therefore earn me a lot more cash this year as a result.

Small tweaks like this can sometimes repay you many times over.

Happy New Year to all my fellow warriors!

Roy

    You're welcome Tashyla.

I think I'll make this a regular thing to do at the start of each year.

Yep. I metioned it because I saw an email from Michael Cheney today that had the subject line "America's Dumbest Marketers".

That got me to open up his email. It just reminded me to make sure my own subject lines were all set up as well as they can be.

It's worth tracking your open rates and tweaking tose subject lines for any emails that aren't achieving a decent open rate.

I still think that the easiest way to get your email opened is to actually create a connection with your subscribers rather than trying to lure them in with headlines.

After all, I think we all open emails from our friends and family, right? The trick is actually managing to breech that barrier and move from "guy who tries to sell me stuff" to "guy who I like and trust".

I would imagine that people like Frank Kern could get by without putting anything in their headline and his open rate would be higher than most.

I wrote a blog post a while back here on the WF that reflects my observations.

    http://www.warriorforum.com/blogs/ld...pen-rates.html

Ironically, my highest open rates came from a newsletter that I maintained years ago when I didn't know much about IM. Even more ironic, it was my largest list.

Today, one of my lists has an open rate of 44% but that has taken a lot of tweaking, personal emails and babying and networking to get there....however, the list is much smaller and easier to maintain.

Alternatively, I imagine that WF's own, Paul Myers, has great open rates because people identify with him and his stories. (I would love it if he chimed in on this...Paul..if you are out there)...

Yep Paul Myers talks an awful lot of sense and I do open his emails, (and read 'em), but you know Paul is not too shabby at writing good subject lines either.

I totally agree with you that you have to build a relationship with the people on your list, but from the outset you have also got to get them to open your emails in order to form that relationship in the first place.

Having interesting, humorous or thought provoking (read 'click provoking') subject lines is something we should be doing in order to keep our loyal subscribers loyal. (And of course, provide great content in your emails as Paul does).
