Buying Sites From Flippa

For the people who bought sites on Flippa, have you've successful with your purchases? I'm wondering what the risks are.

I may want to buy some adsense sites.

TIA

There are many risks. Most people on there don't make near what they claim. When you see an auction selling for the same amount they claim to make in a month or two.. forget it. They're lying. And I've seen them charge (and make) a few thousand on an autoblog that's barely indexed in Google.

I'd really do my homework and work with someone with a seasoned eye before buying. Just my .2.

one trick i like to use when buying a site on flippa:

copy the url and go to backlinkwatch.com
it will let you know the amount of backlinks (which is important in its own right) and will show you the keywords used as anchor text. This will give you an idea of what type of keywords they are trying to target. (you can also check their homepage for title tags and keyword density to figure it out also)

Then I use rank checker plugin for firefox to see if the site is showing in the SERPS.

If the site does well for the keywords... its a good buy..
If it is at least showing up in the top few pages, and you can do some seo... then its a good buy...

I would just study the sites on flippa that are being sold that have like $1,000 plus in rev and just hijack the niche and do the grunt work yourself. You have to look at this way you'll invest like $50 bucks on your site with high paying niche that you know is a winner in stead of thousands. I don't mind building the site out myself as I feel the struggle is worth the pain so you'll be grateful of the gain in the end. Although not all sellers are scammers, but who really wants to fork out a couple racks on one site and still have to make that back over time.I know its an investment but it can be risky.

Flippa is actually a better place to be selling your websites rather than buying simply due to the auction model employed. That being said you can pick up some real bargains on Flippa and can make even more money by turning the sites around and putting them back up for sale (ie flipping them yourself).

My advice if your purchasing on Flippa would be to first set a firm budget. You do not want to pay out more than you can afford for a site. The second major thing to look for is a site that you can improve upon yourself. Finally, look for a site that is established in the search engines, has indexed pages and depending on how much you want to pay has some established traffic.

I would not be scared away from Flippa on the contrary you should simply use common sense to purchase the sites. In your case since you wish to buy adsense sites it seems as though you may be willing to purchase a site for the long haul, your not looking for a site already creating an income in which case purchasing a ready made site that has all the grunt work done for you could be an easy way to get into the game quickly.
