Static page vs post for homepage/Backlinks/Rank

New site about 3 months, just started updating and adding content backlinking, for about a month.

1)Alright i need some advice. Basically i have a site that's sitting on page 2#2 and i want to update the homepage content. Would it be wise to change it to a chronogical post fashion, targeting the same keyword in every post. Or should i just keep the page static, and just update the content on the page or change it to a post style keep the same exact content, same links pics etc, but just make it where it's being updated with new post in a chronological fashion. It would have the same exact content. And i plan on adding another 1500 more words, with pics etc. The home page has about 1700 words, now with vids and pics, optimized w/seo pressor.

2)Also another question is that i've been doing backlinking on this site and i keep checking the site for ranking's and backlinks with market samarui, and i don't see any backlinks to the page, what's up. Is it because it hasn't been crawled. I was thinking about getting backlink engergizer to see if i can get my backlinks indexed and make sure i get credit for them, or maybe some other program, any suggestions would be appreciated.

3 And i also check the rankings using market samarui, rank tracker, manually, and Mike's market tool. And i keep seeing rankings all over the place, sometimes #12, got to page 1 #2, it even disappeared for a couple of days, i almost had a heart attack. But it goes right back to 12. And i get that it's going to do a google dance, but is there any real reliable way of checking your rankings. I Try to stick to doing it manually, but i heard somewhere that checking from the same ip address affects how you see the rankings. Basically you keep searching for the same site, so google priortizes it. Any help on these questions would help.
