Wordpress doing hosting?

Hello,

New to the forum here. Just starting out in internet marketing. In the middle of creating my first site the now actually.

I've made websites before but that was sometime ago. Before wordpress was so huge and noone used it. Therefore I have no clue how to use it since I never have. Bit confusing at first but I'm getting the hang of it.

Anyway, awhile ago when I used to make websites (not for internet marketing) I tried wordpress once, and as far as I remember, they didn't do hosting. I just set up an account and straight away I was shown my website.
I don't understand this, I can't find any of their hosting specs, what the bandwidth is etc.

Was just wondering if anyone here has solely used wordpress for their site and just linked it to their domain name or do you all suggest installing wordpress on a paid hosting server like hostgator?

Thanks

You can get WP hosting from wordpress.org if I'm not mistaken, I prefer to use Hostgator or Fatcow personally (for the good support and free advertising)

I believe it's a tad cheaper through WP, not much though

Wordpress.com hosts the site for you but they own it. I'd strongly suggest getting your own host and then go about getting wordpress on it. That way you have complete control of your website blog.

Yes, get your own hosting...don't use wordpress.com.

You are absolutely WRONG! - wordpress.org is the place where you download the free, open source script. And where you all guys should go to read the online documentation (aka Codex) and for Support!

Yes, that's wordpress.COM where you can start a free blog. Before jumping on, read the TOS: no commercial use allowed. Since this forum is about 'making money'... wp.com shouldn't even come up in discussions

You are confusing the two different Wordpress setups.

Wordp[ress.com is hosted by Wordpress and they retain everything. Not the way to go if you are planning to use your blog in a business.

Wordpress.org offer you a completely free CMS which you can upload onto your own hosting. The website is your property. This is the option used successfully by thousands of IMers.

Just ensure the hosting company as Softaculous for quick Wordpress script installations.

Definitely get a shared hosting account and install wordpress on it. That way there are no restrictions. Best of luck!

      YES.

I think Wordpress tries to sell you hosting that is through other hosting providers (if I recall correctly).

If you are doing any marketing you are better off doing your own independent install and using what ever plugins you want.

If you want to just write a journal, then by all means use the free wordpress as that is what they encourage, and you can get huge ranking benefits by using them.
