News portal approach?

Hey there
Is anyone still trying build a site through a news portal technique for a particular niche? I am using this to build traffic and seems to be working very well. Also, I have a banner ad system which promotes my own product/service as well as a few Clickbank product. Has anyone tried this approach to convert traffic to buy? I just wanted to know if anyone has any experience with this.

With a lack of answers, does this mean no one has interest in doing it or it just does not work? Or is too hard? Just wondered. Thanks
