Is this copyright infringement?

I created a Mobile App and uploaded it to the android marketplace. The name of the package that I uploaded is called something similar to 'com.Insurance.com' because nobody in the niche had claimed such a basic package name yet. The program I used to create the app automatically put '.com' on both sides of my application package name. Does a company like Insurance.com have any basis to tell me to take this package down?

With the usual caveat (ianal), I don't think so because I am fairly sure that they would not be able to trademark the word 'insurance'. Provided your work is your own, I don't see a problem.

There is no such thing as copyright infringement for a domain name. There is only trademark infringement. Whether or not you are infringing on a trademark depends on the exact word in question, and how you're using it.

You mean to say I cannot put a trademark company's name but for terms there is no issue?

The issue of Trademarks in domain names comes up every day here on the Warrior Forum, and it is always a complicated discussion. The bottom line, is a trademark is something that must be protected by the owner, or they can lose the right to claim it as their own. Any time a trademark is used in a domain name by a third party that can lead people to confuse it with the rightful owner of the trademark, there is serious legal trouble in store.

There are many gray areas. Cease and desist orders are issued every day. Lawsuits are issued often. If you have any doubt whether or not your domain contains a trademarked term, you need to get the advice of a licensed attorney.

I don't know what you mean by "but for terms there is no issue?".
