      use a wordpress shopping cart plugin that will protect your products from being stolen, either lock it behind a paywall or let the plugin do all the work.

        On the note of WP, look into the s2Member plugin (free). It'll definitely do what you need and has a paypal shopping cart, all well.

    There are many download protection products, DLguard and Amember are popular choices.

    You can also add a no index code onto your download page so its not indexed by the search engines however this wont protect against someone sharing your link with someone else.

    Use this code on your page:

    <html>
    <head>
    <title>...</title>
    <META NAME="ROBOTS" CONTENT="NOINDEX, NOFOLLOW">
    </head>

    Eh, e-junkie allows you to sell multiple ebooks?
    Or choose warriorplus, unless you want to sell outside the warrior forum...

    Only by putting download page behind a membersonly wall and don't allow direct access to the file can you protect outsiders from accessing it. The solution is quite simple if you use WordPress.

    People share stuff so can't really protect from legitimate customers giving your eBook to other people. Putting a password on the PDF is waste of time and only annoys people.
    It only takes a few seconds to remove PDF passwords anyway. Heck you can duplicate password protected files by printing them through PDF printer so no need to remove password from original file.
    Also using solutions that limit the time frame to access file is treating customers badly, likewise limiting amount of times a file can be downloaded. (In my opinion)
    Both solutions are rendered mute anyway if the customer uploads PDF to rapidshare or wuupload etc.

    You'll also face potential e-book theft if he shares the product after buying it, or uploads it to a black hat or torrent site. Which is why stamping the purchaser's transaction details automatically on each page of the PDF can be very helpful. E-junkie has a gadget available which will do that for you.

    Protecting the download page doesn't achieve any of that.

    I'm lost. Why is "selling 2 e-books" a reason not to use E-junkie?

        Ah, I see ... yes, that would make sense. (I didn't know this, but probably). Thanks, Jill.

          I suggest you use this plugin: WP SalesAutomator | Wordpress Membership & Product Sales Plugin

          I am in No Way affiliated with this product. I simply use it, love it and recommend it
          .

          Here is their description of their download protection:

          Downloads management - All product sales are protected with encrypted links to hide the real location, you can also use time limited or max download counts to add extra security. Plus for any customer who needs to re-download their purchase, it's all automated. They can easily reset and have the download link sent to their paypal email, it's a huge customer support time saver!

    Is there a way to have the download page require the incoming link be from the payment processor? If there is, that would eliminate the link sharing, but it also eliminates typing in the URL by the purchaser, or having a link in email. AND it doesn't eliminate the sharing on other sites issue unless you can mimic e-junkie stamping transaction info on the file. (Just thinking aloud)

    Sadly, it's a part of the online world that there is going to be some level of theft. But, you have to just figure it into your business and move on. It's sort of like in the offline world where you can't live your life in fear. In a brick and mortar, they figure in a % to account for theft. (I'm not saying you have to raise your prices, just don't let it bother you as much.) It's a balancing act to give yourself as much security as you can while not being annoying to your legit customers.
    Security can be an issue with any file I guess, but if you treat your customers as well as possible, and over-deliver on your promises, they will be less likely to share your products on other sites for free.

    I am using ultimate marketing center, it is a monthly service and an automation center, but if you wish to do it for free, here's what you can do. If you are using cpanel you can password protect your download folder. On monthly basis you can change the password of that folder and you can inform your clients that this password will be active only for next 3 days so tell them to download their ebook instantly. Hope this helps...

    There is aproduct called download guard (DLGuard) which protects your downloads. It times out the download after a couple of days so you would have to tell your customers that they only have so many days to download the product. Some of these products are made in such a way that if a link is shared, it deactivates.

    Question (still a newbie)

    With DLGuard... confused - where is the product housed? Is it on a specific server associated with DL or is it on my hosting site? Just confused - the download companies I see tell you unlimited downloads but only a certain amount of products for a specific amount. As I will be constantly adding more product to sell...I need something that doesn't limit the product count.

    Thanks

      Hi, I looked at DLGuard and honestly, it's very expensive (you just install it on your server). For 130 EUR you are only allowed to use it for ONE site...

      no, not for me...

      have a look at codecanyon ...there are many scripts for 5-15 USD
      like this one PHP Scripts - Secure File Download Class - CodeCanyon (no aff link)

    This is all new to me so forgive me if I am not understanding.

    Someone suggested using warrior plus. But it seems every WSO here within a day appears on black hat forums for free. How does warrior plus or any of the suggestions above stop this sort of thing?

    Heck you can find just about every kindle book for free on the net in the black hatt forums.

    If amazon can't stop them how can any of the above stop it?

        Not very experienced... but it looks like you are mixing two different issues:

        1. protecting the download page with different methods: expiring links, encrypted URL

        2. preventing scumbags to share your work after, eventually, buying it by putting it up to BH places or just giving it away

        The thread was started about #1. And most of the scripts, plugins, solutions mentioned address only that.

    Buy a copy of DLGuard. You can use it for as many products as you want. I couldn't do without it. It delivers your product after payment with an expiring link. The actual download page is never revealed.
