My forum has become a time sucking leach. to many people to much having to moderate... not enough like minded individuals to allow to run the place.

if i ignore it for a few days its choas..

and i'm about to get a large influx of new members.

Is there a way to outsource this? if so, how do you find people you can trust?

i haven't seen any rates or actually anything on outsourcing forum stuff
can some body give me a few links, or if they have been though this
tell me what they did.

thnx
Rick

I had one like that once. I tried ignoring it and it filled up with spam so I finally just hit the delete button and pooof ... gone. lol.

It was liberating. Never want to run another forum.

Yes you can outsource the moderation - you could try posting the project on elance or odesk or rentacoder or digitalpoint and see what interest you get. Just make sure you've monetized your forum (unless it's subscription based) so you're making more than costing (or being truly leeched!)

Apart from outsourcing the forum moderation you can also use some other measures to eliminate spam. What we have done in our forum is that we banned most of the know spammers emails and IP addresses and we also moderate the first 10 posts made by the new users and that gives us enough time to see what are the motivations of the user. But for busy forum you defiantly need some moderators to be on duty all the time.

Good idea. Might be a little work, but I think the pay off is worth it. Just sad that you have people that just want to make trouble on your forum and not offer anything of value.

Mine never got to the chaos stage, but it was definitely taking too much of my time for a while.

First I changed the policy - no throw-away e-mail addresses. That tends to eliminate the trolls, riff-raff and other assorted dregs of humanity who need qualified professional care.

What help me the most was privately asking a couple of my long-time subscribers who consistently gave the best replies if they could assume additional responsibilities.

Do you have any active participants that are level-headed? You can elevate them to moderator status to ease your burden.

I would look for your best forum participators and see if any of them would want to become moderators for you. From what you said in your initial post though it does not seem like you have many serious contributors to the community, if any.

May be time to step back and decide whether or not the forum is actually worth continuing. Not every forum will make you money. Some will just suck a whole lot of time and money out of you. If you are going to start spending money on the forum then you want to be sure it is a worthwhile investment.

I wouldn't like to be at the brunt of Forum spam and all the rest of it LOL

I trust the outsourcers on oDesk.com so maybe try there for moderation staff.
