I would check out Camtasia. I use it for all my video projects plus it comes with a free 30 day trial

I got a product called 'Any Video Converter' (AVC). It converts just about any format to any other format and it's free. I can't post links yet but you can check it out at www (dot) any-video-converter (dot) com/products/for_video_free/

    Cheers

Would suggest a purpose built video editor, especially if you want to make more videos. Try the free trial of sony vegas.

If you are on Windows, you can use Windows Movie Maker. It's free and for simple editing tasks like cutting out fluff, should be sufficient for what you need to do.

Agree with Julesw, I use Sony Vegas Pro, but they have a "lite" version that is very feature rich, including layers.

If you are a mac user try Final Cut, you not only get an excellent professional video editing program, but also other software for compression, motion graphics and DVD production.
