I'm so sick of hearing about all those patent lawsuits, I hope this puts a curb on it. All these companies are so anti-competitive that they do whatever they can to hinder the competition launching their own products.

Ya, companies should just let their competitors grab whatever they need to succeed... Because you're sick of people protecting what is theirs.

While we are at it, let's just throw everybody's belongings into one big pot and we can just all share from here on out. Get rid of those stupid flags and armies and designer clothes. Let's build a campfire and sing Kumbaya in the nude.

You sing Kumbaya in the nude and then post a video. Really. Love to see it.

Your statement that I'm sick of people protecting what is theirs is ridiculous to say the least. That isn't what I said at all. If you follow all the patent wars, you will see that patent trolls have gotten way out of control and some courts are throwing them out of court.

Lately, companies such as Apple and Microsoft, afraid of Google Androids' rapid climb to success have been going after Android manufacturers in frivolous and practically baseless lawsuits to stop Androids' rapid growth. It's been happening so much lately that the slogan, "Why Innovate, Litigate", has been born in reference to the ridiculous amount of patent lawsuits, showing up on wallpapers posted by users on such popular social networking sites as Google+ and Facebook.
Google did this to protect Android from patent trolls. They will acquire 17,000 patents specifically related to mobile. Maybe then they can be patent trolls right back.

I have no problem with people legitimately protecting their own patents on useful and productive inventions.

I have a problem with a patent system that allows someone to file and receive a patent on something that is unpatentable.

I have a problem with a legal system where it takes several years and millions of dollars to prove that the patent should never have been issued in the first place.

And I have a problem with the community of attorneys who willingly participate in this perversion of the system for profit.

Don't misunderstand; there are a great many patent owners - both individual and corporate - who have a legitimate invention that deserves patent protection, and there are a great many patent attorneys who are honest and ethical and upstanding people. I applaud all of them, and fully support their right to protect these significant and very necessary investments in progress.

        But U.S. Patent 5443036 is a travesty:

        1. A method of inducing aerobic exercise in an unrestrained cat comprising the steps of:

        (a) directing an intense coherent beam of invisible light produced by a hand-held laser apparatus to produce a bright highly-focused pattern of light at the intersection of the beam and an opaque surface, said pattern being of visual interest to a cat; and

        (b) selectively redirecting said beam out of the cat's immediate reach to induce said cat to run and chase said beam and pattern of light around an exercise area.
In other words, in 1993, Kevin T. Amiss and Martin H. Abbott "invented" the process of shining a laser pointer and moving it around so your cat will chase it. They also applied for and received a patent on it.

Like to defend that one, Eric?

Letting Famous People Interact Online? Patented! Twitter Sued
          from the oh-come-on dept

... Twitter is being sued for patent infringement over what may be one of the most ridiculous patents we've seen in a long time. The patent, 6,408,309, is for a "method and system for creating an interactive virtual community of famous people." And yes, the USPTO actually approved this.

Reading through the claims, however, not only suggest that this patent never should have gotten anywhere near being approved, but also raises serious questions about how Twitter infringes.

... An interactive virtual community of famous people? Seriously?

Windows 7 phone as hardly penetrated the smartphone market and figures for last month already show then on a decline in sales!

I would also take the sale as another indication how mobile marketing is expanding - if google spending $12billion dollars on mobile isn't an indication for you to start looking into mobile I don't what it is lol

Google just wants to own every single piece of it's supply chain from the phone manufacturing to the OS software to the very search engine we use... oh and they even own several fiber-optic high speed companies...

so yes, I think it's safe to say that Google is trying to take over the internet. *******s!

It wouldn't be so bad if they weren't government stooges who will most likely sell out and give in to government regulations etc. that will basically KILL our last frontier of free speech which is our beloved web.
