Would you recommend Buddypress for a Membership site?

I used Buddypress earlier today, and I had a hard time trying to modify its settings. When I searched the Internet, most of the moderators recommend modifying the php files, which isn't really my thing.

I found it a little cumbersome to modify. Do you guys think Buddypress is worth to implement for a membership site? If yes, which membership would it fit best (s2member,wishlist member, dap, magic members, etc.). I tried it with S2Member, it disabled the restrictions (weird?)

Should I just stick with Mingle Forums and a membership site script or is Buddypress really worth it?

I can't say I have the answer, Louie, but I just came across your post and thought I'd let you know I'm working on this same issue -- initially trying DAP & BP. I also came across a ranking site that showed the list of yours, and the only other one that worked with BP was s2Member (free).

    Good luck!
