First post here so be kind! I may not even have all the proper terminology but here goes. Can I successfully sell a product ( from Clickbank lets say ) via buying an email list and having the interested parties click through to the product owners page? Is that an over simplification or pretty close?

I did a search and couldn't find anything so I thought I would post.

Please provide feedback/advice.

Thanks,
Dave

Sure, people make sales all the time by renting lists or doing sponsored email blasts, list swaps etc.

The hard part is turning a profit - you need to make more from the emails then you had to pay to have them sent. The problem with rented lists is they usually have very low open rates, little or no trust relationship with the sender and very low conversion rates.

That's not to say it's impossible to make money this way, but it might not be the most lucrative.

In my opinion, your money is better spent building your own list - which will in time become an asset of it's own and you can use it to make repeated sales.

When a customer purchases something from you, make a point to add them to a customer list. It's much easier to sell to someone who has bought something from you in the past, and very lucrative.

Try low-ticket items to start, and make sure you provide value and build trust with your lists before trying to sell any high-ticket items.

Just out of curiosity is there an industry expected return as in the old days with direct ( snail ) mail marketing of 2/3% with emailing marketing?

Generally conversion rates hover around 1%, or some people also value a lead at roughly $1 over the lifetime of the lead on average. In my experience though it really depends on the vertical, the quality of the list, frequency of mailings, price points etc.

If the ROI on what you propose was there, a lot of us would be doing it. We're not. That should tell you all you need to know. You're looking for a shortcut to profits, which is not wrong in and of itself, but is largely a fantasy.

Build your own list, try to win them over with solid, useful information and then work in some sales pitches (your own stuff or Clickbank, WSO's, whatever). It's a lot of work, but when we in this business say "The money is in the list" we mean our own list.

      Dave,

If you buy a quality mailing list to start and then give the visitors the option to opt in to your email list on the landing page you have the best of both worlds. The problem is most list brokers lists sell garbage leads. I wasted a lot of money on them until I found my own solution and now have fresh permission lists in the millions that are cleaned every 24 hours.

You also need to have a way to not only send out the leads, but inbox them so they won't go to the spam folder. I'm not talking about leads you can put into an autoresponder and send out. You need email servers that are whitelisted and spam check every single word of your message and subject line.

Email marketing that way can be profitable but it takes some time to get set up and takes some cash to get started. Once you get past the learning curve, you can make good money. But for most it's way too much work and they are looking for a simpler solution.

Buying an Email List and blasting an offer is a big no no. It's considered spam and can get you into alot of trouble.

    *cough*

I know alot of people try to take the easy way out.

But realistically if you build a list and start list swapping and jv'ing you can do very well. Just learn all you can first, and start to apply it.

I would never in a million years buy a list

    - have they abused them?
    - what have emailed them?
    - where have their subscribers come from?
    - What demographics?

You do not know these things, and they are important. And most of the time people who buy lists come back in here and complain.

    Just my 2 cents.

Always remember its a business so you're going to want to be making a profit. So plan your e-mail sequences and always provide value and sell the benefits of your product from CB. It always helps if you have a profile of your customer so you can better talk to them.

I agree with most folks. Buying list mean people in that list got email... A lot in 1 day. So, They'll not open email easily.

Dave, in theory, of course it's possible ... but no one here can say what you can successfully do because no one knows anything about you.
    • Can you pick products that convert well?
    • Can you target the right products to match how the list was built?
    • Can you write convincing pre-sell copy?
    • Can you build trust?
...I could go on, but I think you see my point. No one can predict what kind of results you will get because they have no basis for making such a prediction. You sir, are a mystery.

Using an email list to talk to your prospects and customers is beneficial and helpful because it provides a means for an immediate communication. Other means of advertising or marketing could take a lot more of your time. Email on the other hand is delivered instantly, ensuring your message is read as soon as possible. By staying at the forefront of the customers mind with a cooperative email newsletter and reminding them of your services with promotional emails and messages, you'll be able to convert many of those prospects. You can focus on your marketing scheme and creativity because you don’t have to spend time finding bulk email list, your spare time can be productively used to make your marketing initiative and strategy work.

I have bought lists in the past, and they converted VERY badly... I wouldnt recommend.

On the other hand, I have a 'buying' list now which converts so well - and that was done the hard way - by creating a product then building a relationship.

      Hope that helps!
